CANASTOTA, N.Y. » The Summer Reading Program at the library winds down in August but there are still plenty of events to attend. From Storytime and Lapsit to family fun events, the library is hosting an art exhibit and regular events are still happening through the summer.

Every month, the Canastota Public Library hosts an artist or artists in the Lawson Community Room. For the month of August, the Community Fine Arts Guild will show at the library. They are a passionate group of artists who are teachers of art or are retired teachers of art, music or science, from local school districts. They have members who have become successful selftaught artists without formal art education. Several members are award-winning artists as well as part of the prestigious CNY Watercolor Society. The Community Fine Arts Guild cares about their communities and enjoy sharing their techniques and ideas with each other. Creating art is a form of therapy for many of the members.

An artist’s reception will be held for the group on Wednesday, Aug. 8 beginning at 7 p.m. in the Lawson Community Room. The community is welcome to attend to meet the artists.
