National Lobster Day?

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) » U.S. senators fromNewEng­land want to grant the lobster another national day of celebratio­n.

They’ve introduced a resolution to again designate Sept. 25 asNational Lobster Day to honor the economic, historic, cultural and culinary contributi­ons of lobsters.

The resolution is being led byMaine’sU.S. Sens. AngusKing and Susan Collins, who say it honors not only the lobsters but also the people who harvest, ship and cook them.

Rhode Island’s U.S. Sen. Jack Reed says he expects the full Senate to again unanimousl­y approve it as a fun, tasty way to honor lobstermen and their catch.

Maine led the nation in American lobster landings in 2016 with 132 million pounds valued at nearly $540 million, followed by Massachuse­tts, NewHampshi­re and Rhode Island.

Bear rescued from storm drain

COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. (AP) » Authoritie­s have freed a bear that got caught in a storm drain for about an hour.

Colorado Springs Utilities workers and Colorado Parks and Wildlife Southeast Region workers arrived to the residentia­l neighborho­odThursday towork out a strategy to get the bruin out. They didn’t want to handle it because they would have to tag it and it would be euthanized if tagged again.

Wildlife officials harassed the bear by firing a nonlethal rubber slugwhile utility workers opened a manhole . The bear, estimated to be about 250 pounds, climbed out and was chased away.

Tourist trapped

NEWYORK(AP) » Talk about a tourist trap!

A woman visiting New York City says she got locked inside a historic fortress and prison and was stuck for about an hour because a guard didn’t have a key.

Shakira Stover tells the New York Post she was walking around Castle Williams on Governors Island on Wednesday when the doors were closed and padlocked.

The 35-year-old American living in Spain says she screamed for help and got the attention of a pair of British tourists, who summoned a guard.

Stover says the guard didn’t haveakey andhadto get a park ranger to punch in the padlock code.

The fortress was built in 1811 to protect New York Harbor from the British. It was a military prison until 1965.
