Summer Concerts

Here are the summer free concerts listed for this week. Hamilton’s Village on the Green on Thursday, Aug. 9, Sanguine Penguins, eclectic indie-folk will be entertaini­ng the park from 7-9 p.m. Activities in the park begin at 5:30 p.m. with plenty of activities to keep you busy until themusic begins. Come and enjoy and have your supper from the nearby food places that cater to the crowd.

At the Oneida City Center Market from 4-8 p.m., the market will have all kinds of goodies for you to shop while waiting for the free concert playing in Higinbotha­m Park. Old Clay Stone will play for your enjoyment.

Dr. West Park on Genesee Street in Chittenang­o will have a concert this week on Aug. 7 from 6-8 p.m. with Matt Chase and Thunder Canyon

The Village of Sylvan Beach welcomes Moss Back Mule to its Band Stand on Main Street on Wednesday, Aug. 8, from 7-9 p.m.

The pavilion at the Internatio­nal Boxing Hall of Fame in Canastota will have a concert with The Coachmen from 6:30-8:30 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 9. The Coachmen are a seven-piece band that includes a horn section. They perform all dance and up-beat music from R&B to classic rock and funk. This band is extremely energetic and entertaini­ng. Rain date is Tuesday, Aug. 14.

In the gazebo in the MumfordRei­lly Memorial Park in the city of Sherrill, modern jazz group ESP, featuring Kirsten Tegtmeyer, returns for a second year. The band’s

music is inspired by traditiona­l jazz, improvisat­ion, and features a contempora­ry sound that’s appealing to a wide audience. Come listen to this talented group that includes Sherrill resident Evan DuChene.

The Historical Society of New Woodstock will present Gary Robertson on Friday, Aug. 10, at Heritage Park beginninga­t 7 p.m. The park is getting a new gazebo being built entirely by volunteers. The plan is to have the building dedicated at the Old Home Days on the last Saturday of July in 2019. The concert is free and open to the public. Everyone is invited to bring a chair.

Senior Bus Trip to Fair

The city of Oneida, city of Sherrill and village of Canastota are sponsoring a bus to the New York State Fair for seniors on Tuesday, Aug. 28. The bus will leave the Oneida Towers at 9 a.m. with a stop at the Canastota Pool and leave the Fair to return at 6 p.m.

Seniors 60 and older are admitted free to the Fair. Chevy Court concert at 2 p.m. with the Temptation­s.

The bus fee is $10. This trip is open to seniors 55 and older. Seating is limited.

Basket Exhibit

World-renowned basket masker Flo Hoppe will display several of her creations at the Rome Art and Community Center in the coming weeks.

Both Flo Hoppe’s exhibit and the Rome Art Associatio­n Member show will run until Sept. 5. The Rome Art & Community Center is open to the public Tuesday through Thursday from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Caregiver Group

The Madison County Office for the Aging will hold Caregivers & Coffee for persons caring for someone with Alzheimer’s disease, dementia, and other forms of memory impairment on the first Thursday of each month at 1 p.m., and the third Thursday of each month at 9 a.m.

The free sessions will be held at the Office for the Aging, 138 Dominic Bruno Blvd. Respite will be provided at no cost to allow caregivers to attend. For more informatio­n, call Anna Marie at 315-697-5700.

Live Music

The Cazenovia Public Library will bring you live music on Friday, Aug. 10, from 7:30-9:30 p.m. Irish singer- songwriter Cally Anna, on her first U.S. tour, will perform songs from her debut album, “Lost at Sea.” Appearing with Gary Wynne. The concert is free.

Peaks Coffee Leaving

After three years in business in the local community of Cazenovia, Peaks Coffee Co. has outgrown its location and is leaving its space at Nelson Corners. But only half the company is moving away -- the cafe aspect of the business is heading into the city of Syracuse while the roastery is staying local and relocating only a few miles down Route 20 in Cazenovia.

The Peaks coffee mastery will stay in Madison County and move into the portion of the Pelco Component Technologi­es building on Route 20. The mastery will not be open to the public as it will be specifical­ly used for production for clients and future Peak baristas. Local fans should notworry as the company’s coffee will continue to be sold at Dave’s Diner and 20East, and at the weekly Cazenovia Farmers Market. Coffee can still be ordered off the Peaks website.

STEM Kids Camp

Innovation on the Erie STEM kids camp hands-on program is coming to the Chittenang­o Landing Canal Boat Museum, 717 Lake Road, Chittenang­o, for kids aged 8-12. Registrati­on will be Monday, Aug. 6, from 9 a.m. to noon. Registrati­on is $75 for members and $100 for non-members.

Railroad Presentati­on

On Tuesday, Aug. 7, at the Nelson Town Hall, 4085 Nelson Road, Cazenovia, the Erieville/Nelson Heritage Society will host a special presentati­on by railroad historian John Taibi entitled “A Soldier’s Journey Through the Heart of the Park.”

Come and hear one of Central New York’s best storytelle­rs talk at 7 p.m. about his father’s return home after being a prisoner of war during World War II. The program is free and open to the public.

Blacksmith Demonstrat­ion

Watch local blacksmith Mike Allen demonstrat­e the traditiona­l art and trade of blacksmith­ing utilizing Erie Canal tools and techniques at the Chittenang­o Landing Canal Boat Museum, 717 Lakeport Road, Chittenang­o, from11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 7.

Rome Community Theater

Rome Community Theater will kick off its upcoming season with a musical “Dirty Rotten Scoundrels” on Sept. 27-30 and Oct. 5-7. This fast-paced musical deals with two con men, a beauti- ful woman, and the elite of the French Riviera collide in a sexy and irreverent farce.

Other production­s will be “How the Other Half Loves” in December; “Steel Magnolias” in February; “Other Desert Cities” April 11-14; and Neil Simon’s “Chapter Two” on June 6-9. Season tickets are available for $50 for five shows through July 15.

Free Movie

The Sullivan Free Library will have on its Wednesday Free Movie Matinee at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 8, “A Quiet Place,” 2018, PG-13, 90 minutes (filmed in Little Falls, N.Y.). It stars John Krasinski and Emily Blunt. The movie is a horror film in a postapocal­yptic world, where a family is forced to live in silence. Popcorn is free, and viewers can bring their own snacks and beverages.

State FairBus

The Leisure Time Club of the Chittenang­o Parks & Recreation Department will sponsor a free bus to the New York State Fair on Monday, Aug. 27. Take advantage of reservatio­ns with a maximum sign up of 42 of a Chittenang­o Central School bus. You will depart the Parks& Recreation Center at 9 a.m. and the Bridgeport Church at 9:15 a.m. Return at 4 p.m.

Mystery Trip

The Leisure Time Club, sponsored by the Town of Sullivan Parks & Recreation Department, will sponsor a Mystery Tripon Wednesday, Sept. 12, by chartered Coach. Reservatio­ns are required, with a deposit of $25. The deadline is Aug. 29 or until all seats are filled. The cost is $76 with senior resident discount and $81 for all others.

It’s a mystery. Choice of beef or chicken for lunch. Please make choice with reservatio­n.

You will leave the Bridgeport Church at 7:45 a.m. and the Parks & Recreation Center at 8 a.m.

Holiday Inn Playhouse

The Leisure Time Senior Citizen Club of the Parks & Recreation Department of Sullivan is planning a “Holiday Inn Merry-Go-Round” trip on Wednesday, Aug. 22, by Chittenang­o Central School bus. Reservatio­ns are required. The cost is $68 for senior residents or $73 for others. “Holiday Inn” is a beloved musical comedy that starred Bing Crosby and Fred Astaire in the movie. Now you can enjoy it live on stage.

Lunch will beat the inn between Restaurant, Elbridge. Meat choices are pot roast or stuffed chicken breast.

You leave the Parks & Recreation Department at 10:15 a.m. and the Bridgeport Church at 10:30 a.m.
