Community Memorial earns accolades

-

Community Memorial has achieved 5 stars for its performance in total knee replacement from Healthgrades, the leading online resource for comprehensive information about physicians and hospitals.

This achievement is part of new findings and data released today by Healthgrades and featured in the Healthgrades 2018 Report to the Nation. Every year Healthgrades evaluates hospital performance at nearly 4,500 hospitals nationwide for 34 of the most common inpatient procedures and conditions.*

The new report demonstrates how clinical performance continues to differ dramatically between hospitals regionally and nationally. This variation in care has a significant impact on health outcomes. For example from 20142016, if all hospitals as a group performed similarly to hospitals receiving 5-stars as a group, on average 219,568 lives could potentially be saved and 164,454 complications potentially avoided. A 5-star rating indicates Commu- nity Memorial’s clinical outcomes are statistically significantly better than expected when treating the condition or performing the procedure being evaluated.

“Community Memorial is proud to be included again among hospitals that have demonstrated a commitment to exceptional quality care for their patients,” said Sean Fadale, president and CEO of Community Memorial. “We know consumers have many choices where to receive their care, and this designation helps affirm our commitment to achieving a superior degree of quality for our patients.”

For its analysis, Healthgrades evaluated approximately 45 million Medicare inpatient records for nearly 4,500 short-term-acute care hospitals nationwide to assess hospital performance in 32 common conditions and procedures, and evaluate outcomes in appendectomy and bariatric surgery using all-payer data provided by 17 states. Healthgrades recognizes a hospital’s quality achievements for cohort-specific performance, specialty area per- formance, and overall clinical quality. Individual procedure or condition cohorts are designated as 5-star (statistically significantly better than expected), 3-star (not statistically different from expected) and 1-star (statistically signifi- cantly worse than expected) categories. For more than 60 years, Community-Memorial Hos- pital’s mission has been to provide quality and caring healthcare to thousands of patients throughout nearly 30 Central New York communities located throughout Madison County and beyond. The hospital provides primary care services with a network of five Family Health Centers (Hamilton, Cazenovia, Morrisville, Munnsville, and Waterville), an after-hours urgent care clinic - available in the evenings and weekends, and 24/7 emergency medicine services.
