Puppy Paddle in Sherrill

SHERRILL » The city of Sherrill will host a Puppy Paddle at the Al Glover Sherrill Pool on Wednesday, Sept. 5, from 6-7 p.m. The pool will be open for dogs to swim. All dogs must have a rabies tag.

Trivia night

CAZENOVIA » The Cazenovia Public Library and the Manlius Library will co-sponsor a special trivia night at Stingers Pizza Pub, 4500 Pewter Lane in Manlius, on Tuesday, Aug. 21 at 7 p.m. A 1980s-themed trivia game will test participants’ knowledge of The Golden Girls, Top Gun, Ghostbusters, and other ‘80s classics. Farms in Crisis

MORRISVILLE » Cornell Cooperative Extension of Madison County will host Farms in Crisis, a discussion on the state of farms and their economic impact, on Wednesday, Aug. 22, at 7 p.m. The event will be held at 100 Eaton St.

Speakers include Corinne Banker, partner of Blue Hill Farm; Sarah Ficken, Cornell Cooperative Extension Agriculture Educator; Corey Mosher of Mosher Farms and Stefan Lutter from the Madison County Planning Office. Your questions are welcome. Light refreshments will be provided.

Italian Heritage Festival planning

CANASTOTA » The Canastota Italian Heritage Community will meet Thursday, Aug. 16, at 6 p.m. at the Canastota Public Library to discuss holding an Italian Heritage Festival in Canastota with a potential date in August 2019. Gospel concert in the park

ONEIDA » Seven area churches will hold a free concert in Allen Park in Oneida on Saturday, Aug. 18, from 3-5 p.m. called Gospel Concert in the Park. The event is free and there will be free hotdogs available.

Basket exhibit

ROME » World-renowned basket masker Flo Hoppe will display several of her creations at the Rome Art and Community Center in the coming weeks. Both Flo Hoppe’s exhibit and the Rome Art Association Member show will run until Sept. 5. The Rome Art & Community Center is open to the public Tuesday through Thursday from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Kidspak program

CLINTON » The Country Pantry is in the middle of its KIDSPAK Program, serving approximately 250 families monthly in Clinton, Clark Mills and Westmoreland. A KIDSPAK is a large bag filled with kid-friendly food. Bags are given out in June/July and August. Item and monetary donations are being accepted for the month of August.

The following items are needed: juice boxes, peanut butter, granola bars, raisins, applesauce or other fruit cups, crackers, animal crackers, cereal, tooth brushes, and toothpaste. Pick-up can also be arranged by calling Mary Zimbler at 315-272-5267.

Correctional Job Fairs

UTICA » The Oneida County Sheriff’s Community Affairs Unit will hold multiple job fairs in an effort to fill current vacant full-time and part-time positions within the Oneida County Correctional facility.

The Community Affairs Unit will be at the following locations: Sangertown Mall in New Hartford on Monday, Aug. 20 through Friday, Aug. 24 from noon to 8 p.m. Members of the Sheriff’s Office will be present to talk about a career in the field of corrections along with providing job specifications, requirements, benefits, and the hiring process. Applications will also be available for those wishing to immediately apply for one of the current vacant correction officer positions.

Senior bus trip to NYS Fair

GEDDES » The city of Oneida, city of Sherrill and village of Canastota are sponsoring a bus to the New York State Fair for seniors on Tuesday, Aug. 28. The bus will leave the Oneida Towers at 9 a.m. with a stop at the Canastota Pool and leave the Fair to return at 6 p.m. Seniors 60 and older are admitted free to the Fair. Chevy Court concert at 2 p.m. with the Temptations. The bus fee is $10. This trip is open to seniors 55 and older. Seating is limited. New season for Rome Community Theater

ROME » Rome Community Theater will kick off its upcoming season with a musical, “Dirty Rotten Scoundrels” on Sept. 27-30 and Oct. 5-7. This fast-paced musical deals with two con men, a beautiful woman and the elite of the French Riviera collide in a sexy and irreverent farce. Other productions will be “How the Other Half Loves” in December; “Steel Magnolias” in February; “Other Desert Cities,” April 11-14; and Neil Simon’s “Chapter Two” on June 6-9. Caregiver support group offered

CANASTOTA » Madison County Office for the Aging will hold Caregivers & Coffee for persons caring for someone with Alzheimer disease, dementia and other forms of memory impairment, on the first Thursday of each month at 1 p.m. and the third Thursday of each month at 9 a.m. The free sessions will be held at Office for the Aging, 138 Dominic Bruno Blvd. Respite will be provided at no cost to allow caregivers to attend.
