Wet Friday ruins all-star visit to Speedway

While Friday’s all-star evening was cancelled because of rain, Sunday’s racing is still on track.

VERNON, N.Y. » Weather continued to haunt the Utica-Rome Speedway.

With a high percentage of precipitat­ion in the forecast for much of the day on Friday, UticaRome Speedway and Arctic Cat All-Star Circuit of Champions presented by Mobil 1 officials were left with no choice but to cancel the All Star visit to UticaRome Speedway set for Friday, August 17.

“Our goal was to do everything that we could to get the show in, but unfortunat­ely, the forecast never improved and left us with little hope,” said Series director, Don Grabey.

“We are currently working with track officials to find a suit- able date to return in 2019.”

Utica-Rome Speedway comes back to life this Sunday for the first of three AMA Motocross events.

Then, on Wednesday night the Utica-Rome Kartway will be back action before Shootout Production­s returns on Friday night with their truck pulling series.

Racing resumes on the big track next Sunday night. asW ilber Duck Chevrolet presents a PICK 4 Show for the DirtTrackD­igest. comDIRTcar 358-Modifieds, Broedel Energy DIRTcar Sportsman, Ted’s Body Shop DIRTcar Pro Stocks and Rookie Sportsman.

Racing begins at 7 p.m., with pits opening at 4 p.m. The grandstand gates open at 4:30.

Admission for adults is $13. Students and seniors is $10 with kids 16 and under are free.
