Amaize Corn now available at TOPS
A new natural breed of sweet corn hailed for its taste is coming to TOPS Friendly Markets.
WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. » Called the “Colonel of Corn,” Amaize Corn is a new natural breed of sweet corn coming to TOPS Friendly Markets.
Created by George Crookham, Amaize Corn is being noted for its taste, crunchy texture and sweetness. The rare breed of white corn is made using traditional hybridization methods and grown in limited supply in the United States.
It is available exclusively at TOPS thanks to the partnership between the store and local growers.
“TOPS prides itself in working with local growers like Eden Valley Growers, who we’ve had a relationship with for over 55 years,” said Jeff Cady, director of produce and floral for TOPS Friendly Markets. “They, along with Reeves Farms out of Baldwinsville, are two of the farms who supply us with this delicious corn during the peak corn season here in New York state.”
The Zittel Family has been growing fresh vegetables for over 100 years and are the proud growers of Eden Valley; and their produce is shipped right to TOPS.
“It has truly been a rewarding experience for Tops Markets to be working with Eden Valley for so many years providing locally grown fresh fruits and vegetables to our communities. When retailers and local growers get together for a singular cause, the outcome is always favorable,” Cady said. “The true winner is our customers as they are able to access the freshest fruits and vegetables from their neighbors. It is great for the local economies as well as the environment.”
