Rachel Bargabos, a junior majoring in microbiolo­gy at the University of Rochester, has been named to the Dean’s List for academic achievemen­t for the spring 2018 semester

Bargabos, a resident of Canastota, N.Y., is the child of Annette Bargabos and Martin Bargabos, and a graduate of Canastota High School in Canastota, N.Y.

• Drew University student Baylee Witter of Sherrill, a member of the Class of 2021 majoring in Theatre Arts, has been named to the Dean’s List for the Spring 2018 semester. To qualify for the Dean’s List, students must earn a grade point average of 3.6 or above.

• Emma Zulch, of Sherrill, N.Y., graduated after majoring in biological chemistry and minoring in dance at Bates. Zulch, the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Peter A. Zulch of Sherrill, N.Y., is a 2014 graduate of Vernon-Verona-Sherrill High School.

She graduates as a member of Sigma Xi, an honor society that recognizes excellence in scientific research.

Bates College graduated 473 students from 39 states and 42 countries on May 27, 2018. Cumulative­ly, the Class of 2018 performed 82,000 hours of community service, exemplifyi­ng Bates’ commitment to community learning and civic action.

Accla i med human rights lawyer Bryan Stevenson, whose work has brought greater equality to the U.S. criminal justice system, delivered the address at Bates’ 152nd commenceme­nt ceremony. In his speech, Stevenson told the graduating class, “Your hope is your superpower. Hope is what will get you to stand up sometimes when other people say, ‘ Sit down.’ Hope is what will get you to speak when other people say, ‘Be quiet.’ I believe that hopelessne­ss is the enemy of justice, and injustice pre- vails where hopelessne­ss persists.”

Stevenson was joined by fellow honorands awardwinni­ng photojourn­alist, Lynsey Addario, Doctor of Humane Letters; Jill Lepore, historian and New Yorker writer, Doctor of Humane Letters; and Bob Ludwig, Grammy Awardwinni­ng mastering engineer, Doctor of Music.

• MCPHS University is pleased to announce that Rebecca Dawit has been named to the Dean’s List for the Spring 2018 semester. Rebecca is a native of Manlius, N.Y. (13104) and is pursuing a Doctor of Pharmacy. Rebecca will graduate from the Boston, Massachuse­tts campus in 2022.

The Dean’s List recognizes those students with a full-time course load who have achieved outstandin­g scholarshi­p with a 3.5 GPA or higher for the academic term.

• Grace Barattini, daughter of John and Sharon Barattini and resident of Sherrill, has been named to the Dean’s List at Keuka College in Keuka Park. Barattini, a freshman, is studying Communicat­ions. A Keuka College student must earn at least a 3.50 grade-point-average for a minimum of 12 semester credit hours to be eligible for the dean’s list. Lakes region near Penn Yan, Keuka College is a private, co- educationa­l college.

• Cazenovia resident Elliot Mitchell, Class of 2019 at Connecticu­t College, has been named to the dean’s list for the 2018 spring semester. Mitchell is a Government major.

• Seton Hall University is pleased to announce Christophe­r Spencer of Oneida, N.Y., has qualified for Spring 2018 Dean’s list.

• Nichole Scholl of Oneida has been placed on the Dean’s List for the Spring 2018 semester at the State University of New York College at Cortland. Scholl is a criminolog­y and internatio­nal studies major.

• Students who receive a term grade point average of 3.3 or higher while completing at least three courses for a convention­al letter grade earn the spring 2018 Dean’s Award for Academic Excellence.

Jacob Shaffner, of Cazenovia, NY (13035) is a graduate of Cazenovia High School and a member of the Colgate Class of 2020. Shaffner’s current major is Economics.

Evan Cornell, of Cazenovia, NY (13035) is a graduate of Cazenovia High School and a member of the Colgate Class of 2019. Cornell’s current major is Economics.

Hannah Bailey, of Chittenang­o, NY (13037) is a graduate of Chittenang­o High School and a member of the Colgate Class of 2020. Bailey’s current major is Religion.

Makenna Bridge, of Madison, NY (13402) is a graduate of Madison Central School and a member of the Colgate Class of 2020. Bridge’s current major is Environmen­tal Geography.

Troy Peters, of Sherrill, NY (13461) is a graduate of Vernon-Verona-Sherrill HS and a member of the Colgate Class of 2020. Peters’s current major is Political Science.
