Wildlife photography on display at Caz library
Throughout September, the Cazenovia Library will exhibit the work of wildlife photographer Jerry Hook.
CAZENOVIA, N.Y. » Throughout the month of September, the Cazenovia Public Library will exhibit the extraordinary work of nature and wildlife photographer Jerry Hook.
The collection of 33 photos is currently on display in the Gallery. Jerry Hook and his wife Nancy have lived in Cazenovia since 1976, when he started as an Environmental Engineer with Stearns & Wheler. In his retirement, he has actively pursued his passion for photography. His favorite subject is wildlife, particularly black, grizzly and polar bears.
Hook has traveled extensively around the U.S. and the globe, visiting and photographing 46 different countries and all 7 continents. He recently journeyed to the Chilkat River in Haines, Alaska, where he photographed a group of more than 3,000 bald eagles gathered to feast on the last run of the Chum salmon.
Last August, Hook drove over 13 hours to Sweetwater, Tennessee to capture the eclipse, which he described as the most incredible 2minutes and 37 seconds of his life. Another memorable trip was his voyage to Antarctica.
“Standing in the middle of a colony of 400,000 penguins can’t be reproduced anywhere else,” Hook said.
The images were captured using a Canon digital camera with a variety of Canon lenses.
The photographs in the Library Gallery are on display for the enjoyment of the community. Children of all ages are encouraged to fill out animal identification sheets to test their knowledge of the animal kingdom. Thematted photos are available for pur- chase, with proceeds going to the Friends of the Cazenovia Public Library.
