Annual Buddy Walk in Utica
Buddy Walk
The Annual Buddy Walk, presented by Upstate Cerebral Palsy, is a one-mile Down syndrome awareness event that will be held on Sunday, Sept. 30 at Hanna Park in Utica.
Registration for the walk starts at 10 a.m. and the walk begins at 11 a.m. The Buddy Walk promotes the acceptance and inclusion of all people with Down syndrome, providing an opportunity to understand, appreciate and see these individuals for who they are: able, unique, gifted and diverse.
The one-mile walk begins and ends at Hanna Park in Utica and will include activities, entertainment and refreshments.
Down syndrome literature will be available and merchandise will be for sale. Donations and pledges are accepted but are not required to walk. For more information, call (315) 927-3463 or visit upstatecp.org.
Reptiles at the Library
WoodCreek Reptiles is once again making its fun, educational programming available to schools, scouts, senior citizen fa-
cilities, and any group interested to learn more about creatures without fur or feathers.
WoodCreek Reptile Wrangler Bill Woodruff is a wildlife handler who has owned reptiles, as many as 63 at one time, for more than 50 years. With selected reptiles from around the globe, his hands-on, interactive programs and exhibits are tailored to fit audiences of all ages and serve as an exciting way to teach about ecology, conservation, the food chain, and geography.
A skilled educator, Woodruff gently assists visitors who may be hesitant to get up close and personal with such creatures as lizards, turtles, tortoises, and snakes; lots of snakes.
“Audiences are often surprised at how remarkably interesting reptiles are,” Woodruff said.

Blood Screening
The Zonta Club of the Oneida Area and the Oneida High School Z Club are sponsoring the AMBA Blood Screening Program on Saturday, Sept. 15 at the Oneida High School cafeteria from 6-10 a.m.
Participants will receive a comprehensive battery of lab tests for $40. This fee is payable by check or money order only made out to AMBA Wellness Programs. Cash will not be accepted. Proof of ID is required. Additionally, there is a $5 handling fee payable to the Zonta Club of Oneida which goes towards scholarships given to local girls and women.

Social Justice History
The Gerrit Smith Estate National Historic Landmark (Peterboro, N.Y.), the John Brown Lives project (Westport, N.Y.), and the National Abolition Hall of Fame and Museum (Peterboro) are collaborating on a social justice history exhibit at the 2018 New York State Fair Aug. 22 through Sept. 3.
The Gerrit Smith Estate will install an interactive quiz on myths of the Underground Railroad, and a satellite Peterboro Mercantile. The Mercantile is a community heritage shop that sells products related to Peterboro history. John Brown Lives has installed its Timbuctoo exhibit from Lake Placid, and the Hall of Fame will install inductee banners and a history of American Abolition from the Colonial Period to Reconstruction – along with an electronic self-survey on implicit bias.
Other partners of the Underground Railroad Consortium of New York State will host changing displays each day of the Fair, and providing programs at the Empire Theatre. At 2 p.m. most afternoons, there will be a program on Frederick Douglass in honor of the 200th anniversary of his birth. Most afternoons there will also be a program on Underground Railroad history in New York state.

RGB Documentary
The Cazenovia Public Library will present two free screenings of RBG on Wednesday, Sept. 5 at 1 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. in the Community Room.
The critically acclaimed documentary film explores the extraordinary life, career and legacy of U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.
Ginsburg is the second female justice to be confirmed to the Supreme Court of the United States. She was appointed by President Bill Clinton and took the oath of office in 1993. Recently, Ginsburg has become an unexpected pop culture icon. The film explores R.B.G.’s unique personal journey to the nation’s highest court and highlights her legal work on behalf of women’s rights and rights for minorities.
The film is rated PG and runs 98 minutes. Free popcorn provided. This event is sponsored by the Friends of the Cazenovia Public Library.

Senior Bus Trip
The city of Oneida, city of Sherrill and village of Canastota are sponsoring a bus to the New York State Fair for seniors on Tuesday, Aug. 28. The bus will leave the Oneida Towers at 9 a.m. with a stop at the Canastota Pool and leave the Fair to return at 6 p.m. Seniors 60 and older are admitted free to the Fair. Chevy Court concert at 2 p.m. with the Temptations. The bus fee is $10. This trip is open to seniors 55 and older. Seating is limited. Puppy Paddle in Sherrill
The city of Sherrill will host a Puppy Paddle at the Al Glover Sherrill Pool on Wednesday, Sept. 5, from 6-7 p.m. The pool will be open for dogs to swim. All dogs must have a rabies tag.
