VERONA, N.Y. » Fresh off a West Canada Valley tournament championship on Sunday, Shawn Lynch’s VVS Red Devils took on Tri-Valley League foe Notre Dame at home Tuesday.

Any worries of a let down after a hard-fought tourney title were quickly erased in the opening 20 minutes of the contest as the Red Devils struck early and often in front of the home crowd.

Eighth grader Laiken Kiser and sophomore Anna Rossi both recorded hat tricks, while also adding two assists to pave the way for the Red Devils. VVS senior and midfield general Alex Kiser added a pair of scores and two assists, as did freshman striker Sierra Kinne. VVS keeper Morgan Brewer recorded four saves in the shutout, the Red Devils’ fourth of the season.

“I think the offense did well. We tried some different things and were successful,” Lynch said of the VVS attack. “It’s pretty exciting. The defense is very young this year, and any of my

veterans are on the offense. We’re definitely more of an offensive-minded team this year.”

Kinne got the scoring action started with a header minutes into the contest for a 1-0 lead.

Then, Laiken Kiser took advantage of a short Notre Dame goal kick to put the Red Devils up 2- 0. Kinne followed with her second score of the evening shortly after, floating a shot from beyond the 18-yard box past the ND keeper for a 3-0 lead.

Rossi got in on the action near the 15-minute mark, fending off a pair of Juggler defenders inside the 18-yard box on the next VVS score, calmly securing possession and burying the shot for a 4-0 lead.

Moments later, Alexa Kiser got in on the scoring action for a 5- 0 lead, and Laiken added her second tally of the day minutes later on a lefty offering that snuck inside the left post for a 6- 0 advantage.

With time winding down in the first half, Alexa Kiser sent Jill Reed on a run down the left sideline with a nice through ball. Reed received the pass, cut inside and buried her shot inside the left post for a 7- 0 Red Devil edge.

Largely confined to its defensive half of the field throughout the majority of the first half, Notre Dame nearly got on the board in the closing seconds before intermission. Senior forward Emily Sehring broke free from the Red Devil defense, probing into the VVS 18-yard box, but Red Devil keeper Morgan Brewer came off her line to dive on the ball and squander the Juggler scoring chance to close the half.

Coming out of the intermission, VVS picked up right where it left off. Sophomore defender Linsey Cable, part of brand new VVS defense after Lynch lost his back line to graduation in June, set up Laiken Kiser for her third goal of the night in the 42nd minute.

“The defense did phenomenal as well,” Lynch said of his back line. “We have really been working on being in the right position, and they did a great job of that.”

Rossi found the back of the net for her second goal and a 9- 0 lead four minutes later, and Alexa Kiser added her second tally of the night in the 70th minute, before assisting Rossi on her third score a minute later for the final goal of the contest and an 11-0 Red Devil lead.

With the win, the Red Devils improve to 4-2 on the year and climb to .500 in the TVL with a 2-2 mark in division play.

“We played some tough teams in New Hartford and Central Valley Academy and the other teams we’ve gone against in tournaments,” Lynch said. “We changed some things up, and that may be the reason for our recent success. But there is some solid competition coming up, so we’re just going to stay focused.”

VVS will take another TVL foe in Camden on Thursday.

Notre Dame falls to 2-5 on the season and 0-3 in the Tri-Valley League. The Jugglers will take on Whitesboro on Thursday.
