Canastota football blanks Adirondack; Hamilton boys capture soccer title

CANASTOTA5­8, ADIRONDACK­0 » Andrew Marshall threw for two scores and ran for a pair more to pace Canastota in a lopsided 58-0 win over Adirondack.

Marshall hit Raymond Wilsey for a 50-yard touchdown to open the scoring and found Wilsey again on a 22-yard pass for the Raiders’ next score. Then, Marshall busted a 45-yard run to put Canastota up 22-0 at the end of the first. NickWeber added a 16-yard rushing score in the second quarter, and Marshall ran for a 10yard score before teammate Greg Olden added a 4-yard rushing touchdown of his own to give the Raiders a 46-0 halftime lead.

Canastota continued to cruise in the second half, adding 12 more points while maintainin­g the shutout in a 58-0 win to move to 3-0 on the season with a Class C East tilt with undefeated Notre Dame coming on Friday, Sept. 21.

Girls Soccer

CORTLAND4, CAZENOVIA 1 » Jordan Ostrander scored twice to pace Cortland in a 4-1 win over Cazenovia. Lili Gavitt scored the lone Cazenovia goal as the Lakers fell to 4-3 on the season. Still, the Lakers remain unbeaten in the Onondaga High School League Liberty National division.

HAMILTON5, EDMESTON1 » Erik Geier and Spencer Thomas posted two goals a piece to lead the Hamilton Emerald Knights to a Mount Markham Optimist Tournament championsh­ip over Edmeston. Hamilton keeper Ben Codding- ton posted six saves in the championsh­ip win.

Girls Tennis

UTICA, N.Y. » Canastota tennis finished in first place with 22 team points at the Center State Conference League Tournament. Sauquoit Valley took second place with a team total of 18 points.

Boys Cross Country

NEWHARTFOR­D, N.Y. » VVS finished in sixth place out of 13 complete teams in the Small School Division at the New Hartford Invite. AndrewWrig­ht led the way in a time of 18:30.2. VVS head coach Mike Dunne was pleased to post six runners under 20 minutes on the day, noting that race experience is the best thing for his young side to improve. With only one junior and one senior in its top seven runners, VVS remains optimistic about the future.
