September 19, 2018 Vernon Loucks, 93, formerly of Whitelaw left this mortal life on Wednesday at the Eastern Star Home in Oriskany. A native of the Town of Fenner, he was born on August 31, 1925 to Melvin and Olive (Campbell) Loucks. A graduate of Morrisville High School in 1942, he married Harriet Wilde on June 30, 1945. Vernon lost Harriet in 1991 and he married Olive Wamsganz in 1992. Vernon moved to Chittenango in 2004. He lost his second wife Olive in 2010. Vernon moved to Fayetteville in 2014 and most recently resided at the Eastern Star Home in Oriskany. He worked at General Electric for 38 years and lived in Whitelaw for 57 years. While there he was an active member of the Whitelaw Presbyterian Church serving as Elder, treasurer, teacher, Sunday School Superintendent, choir member, cemetery superintendent and with his wife, was instrumental in forming the Whitelaw Ringers (Bells) of Praise. An avid traveler and camper, Vernon visited 49 of our 50 states. He was a member and Master of Ceremonies of the CNY Bluegrass Assoc., as well as being an auctioneer for CNY and Empire State Gladioli Society. He was a volunteer driver for the Madison County Office of the Aging and volunteered at American Red Cross blood drives. It has been accurately summarized that Vernon enjoyed a good story, but that he would rather tell one than hear one. Vernon was predeceased by his parents, his brother Elbert and his wives Harriet and Olive. He is survived by nephews, Elbert (Helen) Loucks of Oneida, Gary Loucks of Canastota and John (Claudia) Wamsganz of Saranac Lake and many friends in Whitelaw and the surrounding area. Funeral services will be 11:00 am Monday, September 24, 2018 at the Whitelaw Presbyterian Church. A calling hour will be 10:00 – 11:00 am Monday prior to the service. Burial will be in Whitelaw Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Vernon’s memory may be made to Lion’s International, Oneida-Sherrill, c/o Robert Visalli, 35 E.
