OPL helping voters register

-

Election Day 2018 is fast approaching. The deadline for registering to vote in the Nov. 6 election is Oct. 12. Are you registered? What about your children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, etc.?

The number of citizens who have never registered to vote is astounding. Why don’t people register? “I don’t do that stuff.” “I don’t understand how to register.” “I don’t know anything about it.” “I moved from a different town and don’t know what to do.” The truth is, it’s easy!

Tuesday, Sept. 25, is National Voter Registration Day. The Oneida Public Library and the Madison County Board of Elections are partnering to provide an easy way to register to vote. BOE officials will be at the OPL on Tuesday, Sept. 25 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

You can register to vote if you are a U.S. citizen, will be 18 years old by the date of the general election, (Nov. 6), have lived at your present address at least 30 days before the election, are not in jail or on parole for a felony conviction, and do not claim the right to vote elsewhere. Just bring your driver’s license or your Social Security number, OR a valid photo ID, a current utility bill, bank statement, paycheck, government check or some other government document that shows your name and address. BOE officials can also tell you where to vote on Election Day. Remember: if you have moved, you must reregister.

Come to the OPL and take advantage of this service, and urge any un-registered people to do the same. Every citizen is entitled to a vote, and every vote matters.

Thank you. Patricia K. Albaugh, OPL
