Chicken and biscuit dinner

Vernon — The Vernon United Methodist Church on Route 5 in Vernon will offer a chicken and biscuit dinner on Oct. 6 from 4-6:30 p.m. The menu includes Chicken, biscuits and gravy, mashed potatoes, vegetables, beverages, homemade pies. Prices are $10 for adults, $5 for children ages 6-12, and free for children under 5. Take out orders are available by calling 315829-3535. Ten percent of all proceeds will go toward a mission.

Harvest Dinner

Bouckvi l le — The Bouckville United Methodist will hold its annual Harvest Dinner on Saturday, Oct. 6, from 4:30-6:30 p.m. The church is located on Route 20 in the heart of Bouckville. The dinner will be turkey with all the trimmings topped off with pumpkin or apple pie, all for a free will offering.

World Communion

Augusta — The Augusta Presbyteri­an Church, 2345 Route 26, Augusta, will observe World Communion this Sunday with a special worship service. Worship and Sunday school both begin at 10 a.m.

Rummage and bake sale

Sherrill — Christ Church United Methodist in Sherrill will hold a rummage and bake sale on Friday, Oct. 12 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Saturday, Oct. 13, from 9 a.m. to noon. On Saturday there will be a $1 bag sale on rummage sale items. The church is located at the corner of Park Street and East Noyes Boulevard. All proceeds are used to support missions.

Ham dinner

Canastota — St. Agatha’s Church of Canastota will hold a baked ham dinner at the Church Center on Saturday, Oct. 13 from 5-7:30 p.m. Dinner includes baked ham, double stuffed baked potatoes, vegetable, brownie a la mode, drink and coffee. Cost is $1 for adults and $6 for children 8 and under. Tickets will be available at the door.

Organ recital

Hamilton — The First Baptist Church, 27 Broad St., Hamilton, will present an organ recital featuring guest artist Anne Laver on Sunday, Oct. 21, at 3:30 p.m. The recital will feature works by composers Bingham, Kokkonen, Manz, Mozart, Pärt, Rheinberge­r, Sweelinck, Vierne, and Wammes. Admission is free, with a catered reception to follow the concert in Fellowship Hall.

Harvest dinner

Oneida — St. John’s Eqiscopal Church will hold its Harvest Dinner on Sunday, Oct. 28, from noon to 4 p.m. The menu includes turkey, potatoes, stuffing, cranberrie­s, carrots, biscuits, and lots of pies for dessert. Also included is coffee, orange drink and milk. The dinner will be served family style. Dinners are $11 for adults, $10 for seniors, $5 for children (6-12) and children 5 and under are free. Flags for Heroes

Utica — The Good News Center will once again post 1000 flags on Utica’s Memorial Parkway the week before Veterans Day, which will be on display Nov. 2-11. The flags will be tagged in memory or honor of a loved one. On Nov. 11, the hundredth anniversar­y of the end of World War I, a ceremony will take place at the Memorial Parkway where visitors can see the flags on display and hear keynote speaker, Jan Scruggs. Scruggs, a Vietnam veteran, founded the memorial that has become known as the Vietnam Wall. The cost to sponsor a flag is $35. You may also call for informatio­n on sponsoring a portion of the field. St. Pat’s Fall Bazaar

Chittenang­o — St. Patrick’s Church, Chittenang­o, will host its annual Fall Bazaar on Saturday, Nov. 17. The festival will take place at the church (1341 Murray Drive) from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Highlights will include: gift basket raffles, a variety of crafters, a country store with fresh baked goods, live music, a chance wheel, and contests and games for children in the music corner. There will be a grand raffle with a top prize of $1,000. Admission is free, and food will be available for purchase throughout the day.

Friendship Inn open each Thursday

MORRISVILL­E — Friendship Inn at St. Joan of Arc Church offers a free weekly meal to the Morrisvill­e community every Thursday beginning at 5 p.m. Non-denominati­onal and open to all, regardless of financial need, Friendship Inn draws on a small army of volunteers who fulfill numerous tasks, from set-up, cooking, serving, to clean-up. Volunteers are always needed. Donations are welcome as well to supplement food offerings and to purchase equipment and supplies. Clothing donations accepted

ONEIDA — St. John’s Episcopal Church, 341 Main St., has been chosen by St. Pauly Textile, Inc. as a repository for used clothing. St. Pauly’s mission is to provide wearable clothing to people who need it, both in the United States and Third World countries. Items that can be collected include clothing, shoes, sneakers, belts, purses, linens, blankets, curtains and stuffed toys. No rags or fabric scraps, pillows, toys or household goods are accepted. Donations are not cut up or shredded. Items should be placed in plastic bags (no larger than 13 gal. size) and placed in the chute of the shed located on St. John’s driveway. Donations are acceptable any time of the day or night. This mission has provided more than 30 million garments to people all over the world who are in need.

Support for parents

Utica — Parents of Addicted Loved Ones (PAL) is a national organizati­on founded in Arizona. The group will be led by Michelle Holliday, who has been trained by PAL. Some of the topics covered are: addiction cycle, traits and behaviors, delayed emotional growth, role of family and enabling behaviors.
