Verona CROPWalk to end hunger
Verona joined cities and towns across the nation in an event to end hunger one step at a time.
VERONA, N.Y. >> This year Verona will join 1,000 other cities and towns nationwide on Saturday, Oct. 20, in interfaith community CROP Hunger Walks around the theme “ending hunger one step at a time.”
Several of the CROP walkers will be wearing T-shirts proclaiming their solidarity with the millions of neighbors around the world who have to walk to live — as well as with the millions served by local food pantries, food banks, and meal sites here in the United States. These local ministries share in the funds raised by CROP Hunger Walks.
CROP Hunger Walks are making a big difference worldwide, including ensuring that more children reach their fifth birthday, teaching sustainable ways to grow food, and providing additional sources of food and income to families facing extreme challenges. CROP Hunger Walks also play a role in the U.S., helping communities ravaged by floods,
tornadoes, hurricanes and other disasters to recover.
In 2017, the Verona CROP Walk raised $2,200 to fight hunger.
The Verona walk will take place Saturday, Oct. 20. Registration will be 8:30 a.m. at the Verona Presbyterian Church, corner of Rock Road and East Main Street, Verona. Walkers can take various routes ranging from one half mile to twomiles with rest stops along the way if needed. The walk will be followed by a brunch prepared and served by the area church ladies.
Preregister online at www.crophungerwalk.org/ veronany and form your own teamor join team“Verona Walks For Hunger.” Put your walk on Facebook to receive sponsors. Text or call Paula Bishop at 4201668 for sponsor sheets and information.
This year, walkers and local churches are asked to help gather nonperishable food items for local food pantries. If participants can gather 500 items, organizers can apply to Thrivent Financial for a grant of up to $500 for local food pantries. Bbring cans or boxes of food to the walk as well as monetary pledges to CROP. Those who can’t walk are asked to visit the website and make a donation to a walker. Extra hands to help with registration and refreshments are also welcome.
