May, Burman to debate over 53rd Senate seat

HAMILTON, N.Y. >> The only live candidates’ debate the Hamilton Forum has been able to schedule for this hotly- contested election season takes place at the Colgate Inn between two women candidates for the state Senate seat currently held by David Valesky.

Valesky lost the Democratic primary to Rachel May and is not campaignin­g to be elected on the Independen­ce Party line.

The debate will take place Sunday, Oct. 28, from 4:30-6 p.m. in the Green Room of the Colgate Inn. All are welcome and encouraged to arrive well before the start of the debate.

Republican and Conservati­ve candidate Janet Berl Burman and Democratic and Working Families Party candidate Rachel May will present their case for representi­ng the 53rd Senate District in Albany to a live audience of voters. Before the start of the debate at 4:30 p.m. both candidates will be in the ante-room to the Green Room to meet and greet members of the audience.

Following their opening statements the candidates take turns answering questions fromthe audience, the moderator, and each other. After closing statements from the two candidates the debate ends at 6 p.m. The debate is moderated by David Craine.

The Hamilton Forum is hosted by the Hamilton Rotary Club as a public service. The Forum Committee is chaired by Barbara Albrecht. This debate has been organized by Charlie Naef.
