Fall rummage sale

Cleveland — The Cleveland United Methodist Church will hold its annual Fall Rummage and Bake Sale on Friday, Oct. 26, from 5-8 p.m., and on Saturday, Oct. 27, from9a.m. to3p.m., at the church, 73 Bridge St., Cleveland. Christmas, Halloween, and fall items, rummage, books, jewelry, clothing, coats, shoes, boots, household, linens, crafts and muchmore. A bake sale will be held both days.

Ham and scalloped dinner

Vernon Center— The Vernon Center United Methodist Church will host a ham and scalloped potato dinner on Oct. 27 from 4:306:30 p.m. at the church, located at 5815 Youngs Road, Vernon Center, on the circle at Route 26. Dinner will include sliced ham, scalloped potatoes, squash, green beans, applesauce, roll and butter, a beverage of choice and dessert. Dinners are $10 for adults and $6.50 for children ages 5-12. The church is handicap accessible and take outs are available.

Clothing giveaway

Bridgeport— The Bridgeport United Methodist Church will hold a community clothing giveaway on Saturday, Oct. 27, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the church, 377 Route 31. Gently-used winter clothing and shoes will be available. Free breakfast and lunch will also be available.

Harvest pie sale

Clinton — The Stone Presbyteri­an Church will hold its annual harvest pie sale on Saturday, Oct. 27, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the church, 8 S. Park Row, Clinton. Several kinds of pies will be available, with the focus being on apple. As in the past, the event will also feature “drive-thru pies.” The proceedswi­ll go toward various mission projects of the Women’s Associatio­n of Stone Church. Harvest dinner

Oneida — St. John’s Eqiscopal Church will hold its Harvest Dinner on Sunday, Oct. 28, from noon to 4 p.m. Themenu includes turkey, potatoes, stuffing, cranberrie­s, carrots, biscuits, and lots of pies for dessert. Also included is coffee, orange drink and milk. The dinner will be served family style. Dinners are $11 for adults, $10 for seniors, $5 for children (6-12) and children 5 and under are free. Heavenly Treats

Canastota — The First Baptist Church in Canastota will host its fourth annual Heavenly Trunk of Treats for children from 6-8 p.m. on Oct. 31. It will be held in the entry of the church with twinkling lights and angelic beings. Candy and trinkets will be handed out. All children welcome.

All Saints and All Souls

Oneida— St. Patrick’s and St. Joseph’s will hold Mass for All Saints Day on Nov. 1 at St. Joseph’s at 8 a.m. and 12:05 p.m., and St. Patrick’s at 9:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.

St. Patrick’s Church will hold its All Souls’ Day Mass Nov. 2 at 7 p.m. During this Mass, everyonewi­ll have the opportunit­y to light a candle for lovedonesw­hoareno longerwith us here on earth.

These November feasts vividly remind us of the rich reality known as the communion of saints. This belief stresses the strong affirmatio­n that the Church is always one in Christ. Death does not sever any of the bonds that unite us in Christ. That is why it is a fitting practice to pray for the dead and to ask them to pray for us. Just as we do that for each other when we are alive, so, too, do we continue that bond and concern for each other even beyond death.

Flags for Heroes

Utica — The Good News Center will once again post 1000 flags on Utica’s Memorial Parkway the week before Veterans Day, which will be on display Nov. 2-11. The flags will be tagged in memory or honor of a loved one. On Nov. 11, the hundredth anniversar­y of the end of WorldWar I, a ceremonywi­ll take place at the Memorial Parkway where visitors can see the flags on display and hear keynote speaker, Jan Scruggs. Scruggs, a Vietnam veteran, founded thememoria­l that has become known as the Vietnam Wall. The cost to sponsor a flag is $35. You may also call for informatio­n on sponsoring a portion of the field. Swiss steak dinner

Vernon — The Vernon United Methodist Church will hold a Swiss steak dinner on Nov. 3 from 4-6:30 p.m. at the church, located on Route 5 in Vernon. Oneida — St. Paul’s United Methodist Church’s 85th annual Harvest Supper will be held Wednesday, Nov. 7 at 551 Sayles St., Oneida. The dinner will include roast pork and all the homemade trimmings, including dessert. Family style dinner seating will be held at 5 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. Admission is $12 for adults, $5 for children ages 5-10, and children under 4 are free. St. Pat’s Fall Bazaar

Chittenang­o — St. Patrick’s Church, Chittenang­o, will host its annual Fall Bazaar on Saturday, Nov. 17. The festival will take place at the church (1341 Murray Drive) from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Highlights­will include: gift basket raffles, a variety of crafters, a country store with fresh baked goods, live music, a chance wheel, and contests and games for children in the music corner. There will be a grand raffle with a top prize of $1,000. Admission is free, and food will be available for purchase throughout the day.

Friendship Inn open each Thursday

MORRISVILL­E— Friendship Inn at St. Joan of Arc Church offers a free weekly meal to theMorrisv­ille community every Thursday beginning at 5 p.m. Non-denominati­onal and open to all, regardless of financial need, Friendship Inn draws on a small army of volunteers who fulfill numerous tasks, from set-up, cooking, serving, to clean-up. Volunteers are always needed. Donations are welcome as well to supplement food offerings and to purchase equipment and supplies. Clothing donations accepted

ONEIDA — St. John’s Episcopal Church, 341 Main St., has been chosen by St. Pauly Textile, Inc. as a repository for used clothing. St. Pauly’s mission is to provide wearable clothing to people who need it, both in the United States and Third World countries. Items that can be collected include clothing, shoes, sneakers, belts, purses, linens, blankets, curtains and stuffed toys. No rags or fabric scraps, pillows, toys or household goods are accepted. Donations are not cut up or shredded. Items should be placed in plastic bags (no larger than 13 gal. size) and placed in the chute of the shed located on St. John’s driveway. Donations are acceptable any time of the day or night. This mission has provided more than 30 million garments to people all over the world who are in need.

Support for parents

Utica — Parents of Addicted Loved Ones (PAL) is a national organizati­on founded in Arizona. The group will be led by Michelle Holliday, who has been trained by PAL. Some of the topics covered are: addiction cycle, traits and behaviors, delayed emotional growth, role of family and enabling behaviors.
