Commission­er receives high honor

Commission­er John P. Talerico was honored for outstandin­g public service in labor relations.

UTICA, N.Y. >> Oneida County Department of Personnel Commission­er John P. Talerico has been honored by the New York State Public Employer Labor Relations Associatio­n for outstandin­g public service in labor relations.

Talerico is the recipient of the NYSPELRA’s 2018 William L. Holcomb Award for demonstrat­ing extraordin­ary achievemen­t in the field of labor relations that has resulted in significan­t efficienci­es, benefits and savings; a long-term commitment to public service exhibiting innovation, creativity and positive change and a strong record of leadership and accomplish­ment.

“John Talerico has admirably served Oneida County for 30 years,” said Oneida County Executive Anthony J. Picente Jr. “His leadership in labor relations and expertise in employment policy have proven to be invaluable assets to the operation of our government. I congratula­te him on this well- deserved award recognizin­g his many accomplish­ments.”

Talerico began his career with Oneida County as an auditor in 1988. He was appointed Director of Labor Relations in 1998 and became Commission­er of Personnel in 2009.

He at tended his f irst NYSPELRA conference in 1998, andwas elected to theNYSPELR­A Board as Regional Vice President in 2007 and Board President in 2013.
