Col­lege names new trustee chair, vice chair

UTICA, N.Y. >> Mo­hawk Val­ley Com­mu­nity Col­lege’s Board of Trustees has named Camille T. Kahler chair and An­thony J. Colón as vice chair, ef­fec­tive Sept. 1.

Kahler has served on the Board since her Oneida County ap­point­ment in 2012. She has been as­so­ci­ated with the firm Saun­ders Kahler, L.L.P. (and its pre­de­ces­sors) in Utica since 1983, first as an as­so­ciate be­fore be­com­ing a part­ner in 1988. Kahler’s work in­volves a gen­eral prac­tice with an em­pha­sis on cor­po­rate law and real es­tate.

In ad­di­tion to her ser­vice on the MVCC Board, Kahler has been ac­tive in a va­ri­ety of other com­mu­nity or­ga­ni­za­tions, and has held board po­si­tions on all of them at one point, in­clud­ing The Com­mu­nity Foun­da­tion of Herkimer and Oneida Coun­ties, Inc. (past Board Chair), the Oneida County Bar As­so­ci­a­tion (past Pres­i­dent), New York State Bar As­so­ci­a­tion, the YWCA of the Mo­hawk Val­ley, the United Way of the Val­ley and Greater Utica Area, Inc., and The Jervis Pub­lic Li­brary As­so­ci­a­tion, Inc.

Kahler earned her Ju­ris Doc­tor from Al­bany Law School of Union Uni­ver­sity, and is ad­mit­ted to prac­tice in New York and Florida.

Colón is serv­ing his tenth year on the Board of Trustees since his Oneida County ap­point­ment in 2008. Af­ter spend­ing 10 years in Cal­i­for­nia work­ing at Mitchell In­ter­na­tional as a se­nior ac­count ex­ec­u­tive and di- rec­tor of Latin Amer­i­can sales and mar­ket­ing, Colón re­turned to Cen­tral New York in 1999 and has since set up sev­eral busi­nesses to pro­vide ser­vices in var- ious dis­ci­plines in­clud­ing lan­guage, cul­tural, and hu­man ser­vices along with IT and med­i­cal re­cruit­ment. As a Qual­i­fied NYS Of­fice of Court Ad­min­is­tra­tion Le­gal Span­ish In­ter­preter, Colón pro­vides bilin­gual ser­vices to a va­ri­ety of en­ti­ties in­clud­ing the New York State Court Sys­tem along with pri­vate, pub­lic, and non-profit en­ti­ties. He also acts as a re­source con­sul­tant to lo­cal com­mu­nity, re­li­gious, and non-profit or­ga­ni­za­tions.

In ad­di­tion to his ser­vice as a Trustee, Colón has a long his­tory of com­mu­nity ser­vice, in­clud­ing mem­ber­ship and lead­er­ship po­si­tions with var­i­ous Oneida County and City of Utica om­buds­man com­mit­tees; the Mo­hawk Val­ley Latino As­so­ci­a­tion; Inc. (co-founder); Scout­ing USA Re­gional Area Board; and South Gate Min­istries. He was the 2015 win­ner of the New York Com­mu­nity Col­lege Trustees Marvin A. Rapp Award.
