College names new trustee chair, vice chair
UTICA, N.Y. >> Mohawk Valley Community College’s Board of Trustees has named Camille T. Kahler chair and Anthony J. Colón as vice chair, effective Sept. 1.
Kahler has served on the Board since her Oneida County appointment in 2012. She has been associated with the firm Saunders Kahler, L.L.P. (and its predecessors) in Utica since 1983, first as an associate before becoming a partner in 1988. Kahler’s work involves a general practice with an emphasis on corporate law and real estate.
In addition to her service on the MVCC Board, Kahler has been active in a variety of other community organizations, and has held board positions on all of them at one point, including The Community Foundation of Herkimer and Oneida Counties, Inc. (past Board Chair), the Oneida County Bar Association (past President), New York State Bar Association, the YWCA of the Mohawk Valley, the United Way of the Valley and Greater Utica Area, Inc., and The Jervis Public Library Association, Inc.
Kahler earned her Juris Doctor from Albany Law School of Union University, and is admitted to practice in New York and Florida.
Colón is serving his tenth year on the Board of Trustees since his Oneida County appointment in 2008. After spending 10 years in California working at Mitchell International as a senior account executive and di- rector of Latin American sales and marketing, Colón returned to Central New York in 1999 and has since set up several businesses to provide services in var- ious disciplines including language, cultural, and human services along with IT and medical recruitment. As a Qualified NYS Office of Court Administration Legal Spanish Interpreter, Colón provides bilingual services to a variety of entities including the New York State Court System along with private, public, and non-profit entities. He also acts as a resource consultant to local community, religious, and non-profit organizations.
In addition to his service as a Trustee, Colón has a long history of community service, including membership and leadership positions with various Oneida County and City of Utica ombudsman committees; the Mohawk Valley Latino Association; Inc. (co-founder); Scouting USA Regional Area Board; and South Gate Ministries. He was the 2015 winner of the New York Community College Trustees Marvin A. Rapp Award.
