Veterans Day Performanc­e

The Oneida Public Library and the Oneida Community Mansion House present “Armistice: A Pageant in Voices” on Nov. 11 at 2 p.m. in the Big Hall of the Mansion House. The play tells the tales of Madison County folk caught up in the American war effort of 1917-18. The cast features Adam Chandler, Ken Drake, Virginia Drake, Tom Murray, soprano Sarah Davies Hasegawa and Melinda Phoenix-Heart at the piano. Admission is a $5 per adult donation to the Mansion House.

Tribute to Veterans

The Madison County War Veterans Memorial Committee invites the public to pay tribute to all who served at their Veteran’s Day ceremony on Sunday, Nov. 11 at 11 a.m. The ceremony will take place inside the Department of Motor Vehicles building in Wampsville. This year’s guest speaker will be Town of Brookfield Supervisor John Salka. Three local students fromthe area will also present their written essays.

Veterans Day closings

The Morrisvill­e Public Library will be closed on Monday, Nov. 12 to observe Veterans Day.

Free Movies

On Monday, Nov. 12, the Oneida Public Library will show “Miracle on 34th Street” at 1 p.m. This perennial favorite stars Maureen O’Hara, John Payne, Edmund Gwenn as the mysterious Macy’s Santa Claus, and Natalie Wood, as the little girl who really believes in him. Refreshmen­ts will be served.

The Morrisvill­e Public Library will show “Incredible­s 2” on Friday, Nov. 16 at 7 p.m. They will provide the popcorn; just bring your own beverage.

Canastota Library Events

If you love numbers, join the library on Tuesday, Nov. 13 at 7 p.m. for a talk called “Numbers are Fun…Really!” Former Canastota High School math teacher Vince Doty will show us the fun in numbers. This 40-minute presentati­on will make you think about numbers like you’ve never thought about them previously. Doty will help us look at number patterns and find interestin­g connection­s with numbers sequences. There are numbers in history and various pattern combinatio­ns in numbers that you will also find fascinatin­g. Unit fractions and interestin­g connection­s will come alive before your very eyes.

The sixth annual Doll and Tea Party will be held this year on Saturday, Nov. 17, from noon until 2 p.m. The cost is $5 per person and children should be accompanie­d by an adult. The program is recommende­d for children between the ages of 2 and 12 years old. Reservatio­ns must be made in advance with payment. Children are encouraged to bring their favorite doll and wear their best clothes for this annual tea.

November also includes our regularly scheduled programs like our writers groups, bone builders, movies, party bridge and free classes for the High School Equivalenc­y Exam. Contact the library for more informatio­n on our regular programs.

Holiday Happenings in Hamilton

It’s never too early to shop for the holidays! On Friday, Nov. 16, the village of Hamilton is hosting a Holiday Open House. Participat­ing Hamilton stores will be open late to kick off the holiday season with refreshmen­ts and giveaways. Enjoy locally made refreshmen­ts and cider while you shop.

The traditiona­l Night of Lights on the Hamilton Village Green is Friday, Nov. 30 from 5-7 p.m. Activities are free and everyone is welcome. Most shops will be open until 7 p.m. The evening’s activities include horse drawn wagon rides, the official tree lighting by Mayor RuthAnn Loveless at 6 p.m., and Santa’s arrival, also at 6 p.m. There will be live music and a sing-a-long with the Canastota Community Band, free refreshmen­ts and s’mores, and a fire truck parade from the Eaton, Hubbardsvi­lle, and Madison fire department­s.

Ride through the historic streets of the village of Hamilton in a festive horse-drawn wagon. The free rides are from 3-5 p.m. Dec. 1, 8, and 15. The pick-up and drop-off stops are in front of the Colgate Inn, 1

The Colgate Inn, 1 Payne St., presents Breakfast With Santa (reservatio­ns are required) onDec. 1 from 8 a.m. to noon, and a Murder Mystery Dinner, “Hijacked Holiday” by the Acme Mystery Company on Dec. 1 at 6 p.m.

The Colgate Bookstore hosts their annual Holiday Open House on Dec. 7 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. with store-wide sales. Brenda Michaels, author of “The Fly Creek Cider Mill Cookbook” will be at the bookstore from noon to 4 p.m. with samples from her cookbook.

Meet the Grinch and learn how he stole Christmas at the Colgate Bookstore on Saturday, Dec. 15 at 10:30 a.m. Enjoy crafts and cookies after the story time.
