Three to be honored with Racial Justice Awards
InterFaith Works of CNY will honor Karen Calenzo, Sheena Solomon and Mookpolo Wait with its 2019Racial Justice Awards on Wednesday, Feb. 13.
SYRACUSE, N.Y. >> InterFaith Works of CNY will honor Karen Calenzo, Sheena Solomon and Mookpolo Wait with its 2019 Racial Justice Awards on Wednesday, Feb. 13.
The ceremony will take place at Syracuse Stage at 5:30 p.m. in Sutton Pavilion. Following the ceremony attendees are invited to Syracuse Stage’s presentation of Native Gardens at 7:30 p.m. in Archbold Theater. The ceremony and reception will also include light food, refreshments, cash bar, and a silent auction of unique items, including framed artwork, theme baskets, gift cards and more.
Recipients of the Racial Justice Award are Central New York residents whose passion and skills have produced change or have contributed toward change in ending racial injustice and promoting social equity.
The award has been presented as part of InterFaith Works’ El-Hindi Center for Dialogue’s Commu- nity Wide Dialogue to End Racismsince 2006. Calenzo will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award, Solomon will receive the Catalyst Award, and Wait will receive the Racial Justice Award, Youth.
Calenzo served as a program coordinator for the InterFaith Works El-Hindi Center for Dialogue for nine years before retiring in 2018. She has dedicated a large part of her career to bringing people together to address racism and build- ing bridges of understanding in the Central New York community. She spent the latter part of her career specifically devoted to this mission, and through her primary service to InterFaith Works’ School Exchange programs, thousands of Central New York students have experienced and grown fromparticipating in important youth dialogue programs.
