Girls Basketball

HAMILTON 61, FABIUS-POMPEY 39 >> Freshman Kyleigh Pearson dropped 22 points and brought down 12 rebounds to lead No. 5 Hamilton past No. 12 Fabius-Pompey in the opening round of the Section III Class D postseason. Beth Belanger followed Pearson with 15 points for Hamilton, and Emma Basher contribute­d 11. As a team, Hamilton was hot from distance, knocking down 10 3-pointers in the victory. Gary Weeks and his Emerald Knights advance to the next round for a matchup with No. 4 LaFargevil­le. CHITTENANG­O 56, HANNIBAL 35 >> Kassie Kleine’s Chittenang­o Bears were firing on all cylinders Friday in a Class B sectional tilt against No. 11 Hannibal. Bears’ forward Emily Moon poured in a game-high 24 points, adding 11 rebounds for the double-double. Mekenzie Dahlin followed with 17 points and four steals for Chittenang­o, and teammate Ally Shoemaker served as the Chittenang­o floor general, dishing out 17 assists. The Bears will face the winner of Saturday’s matchup between South Jefferson and Bishop Grimes in the second round of playoffs on Tuesday, Feb. 19. MORRISVILL­E- EATON 49, DERUYTER 44 >> Down eight points at the half of Friday’s Section III Class D opening round tilt against No. 8 DeRuyter, No. 8Morrisvil­leEaton outscored the Rockets 3118 after the intermissi­on to take a 49-44 victory. Lily Orth paced Morrisvill­e-Eaton with 15 points. Morgan Phillips followed with 12. Madison Russell recorded a game-high 16 points in a losing effort for DeRuyter. The Warriors advance to take on No. 1 seed Copenhagen on Tuesday, Feb. 19. CAZENOVIA 59, MARCELLUS 52 >> Lindsey Lawson dropped a game-high 23 points to power No. 12 Caozenovia in an upset over No. 5 Marcellus in the Section III Class B opening round. Carleigh Szalach added 16 for the Lakers. Cazenovia advances to the second round where it will face No. 4Vernon-Verona-Sherrill on Tuesday, Feb. 19.

HAMILTON 76, REMSEN 36 >> Tom Blackford’s state ranked No. 10 Hamilton Emerald Knights opened the postseason with an exclamatio­n point, racing past Remsen for big win. CSC-IV champion and No. 5 seed Hamilton got a career performanc­e from junior Gabe Trontoski with a career-high 18 points. Fellow forward sophomore Ryan Rutledge notched a game-high 22 points and added 10 rebounds for a double-double. Senior point guard Ryan Hunt led the Emerald Knights with seven assists. Ham--

CHITTENANG­O 63, MEXICO 49 >> Chittenang­o secured a spot in the second round of the Section III Class B postseason with a road win over No. 8 Mexico. Paul Wood fueled Chittenang­o with a game-high 24 points in the victory. Noah Schnuaffer added 16 points, knocking down four 3-pointers in the process. The Bears advance to take on the winner of Saturday night’s matchup between No. 1 Lowville and No. 16 Hannibal.

Boys Volleyball

VERNON-VERONA-SHERRILL 3, ONEIDA 0 >> Vernon-Verona-Sherrill completed a regular season sweep over archrival Oneida on Friday with a 25-15, 25-15, 2522 victory. Adam Durfee had a big night at the net for the Red Devils, posting eight kills and five blocks. Colten Terrier added 10 assists, 10 digs, six kills and two blocks for the 12-4 Red Devils. Tom Smolen paced Oneida with eight assists and five digs.

Thursday Results Boys Basketball

ADIRONDACK 46, ONEIDA 45 >> Oneida’s season came to a close in gut-wrenching fashion via a one-point loss to Adirondack in the Section III Class B playoffs. Jeff Didio’s No. 18 Oneida was up on No. 15 Adirondack 3935 to open the final quarter of play butwas unable to fend off a late Wildcat rally, falling 46-45.

Girls Basketball

MADISON 42, CHERRY VAL- LEY 29 >> Madison closed its regular season with a 4229 win over Cherry Valley to move to 19-1. Kierston Abrams netted 12 points to lead the Blue Devils and all scorers in the victory. CANASTOTA 48, CLINTON 34>> Jessica Evans netted 26 points and pulled down 16 rebounds to lead Canastota over Clinton on Thursday. Playing in its final game of the season, Canastota cranked up the defense in the first half, holding Clinton to six points across the first two quarters of play in the victory. Senior Kacey Cashel added six points for the Raiders in the victory.
