SPAGHETTI FACTORY FIRE
“We regretfully will not be open today, or in the immediate future.”
— Message from the
restaurant staff on its
Facebook page Sunday
SYLVAN BEACH, N.Y. >>
The Spaghetti Factory in Sylvan Beach is closed until further notice after a fire damaged parts of the business on Mother’s Day.
“We regretfully will not be open today, or in the immediate future,” writes the restaurant staff on its Facebook page Sunday. “Damage contained to small portion of the kitchen, storage space, and restroom. To the more than 450 people we had hoped to share today with, our sincerest apologies as we work to reopen. as quickly as possible.”
Owner Jason Spellicy said the fire started in the kitchen’s broiler at around 5 a.m. and that no one was in the building at the time. Spellicy said the only reason the fire was called in was because of Sylvan Beach Volunteer Firefighter Austin Brown, who
saw smoke when driving by. The exact cause of the fire is still being determined.
As of now, Spellicy said the damage looks well contained, but said they still need to look at the roof and attic space. Besides the damage to the kitchen, storage space and restroom, Spellicy also said there was smoke and water damage.
Spellicy said he doesn’t know when they’ll reopen the Spaghetti Factory, but work is already being planned on the clean up.
“We hope by the end of this week, we’ll have power back and have a team in there cleaning,” Spellicy said. “After that, we hope to be full steam in the repair works.”
By his best estimate, Spellicy said they hope to be openina couple weeks, possibly a month at the most, but that is just an estimate at this time.
Spellicy said the outpouring of support from the community — from local restaurants and businesses to local residents — has been amazing and they are grateful. On the day of the fire, Spellicy said he was thankful for the six fire departments surrounding the building, ready to help and do their job.
“It is times like these that you truly understand the value of volunteer fire departments and the brave men and women who devote themselves to helping their neighbors,” writes the restaurant staff on its Facebook page Sunday. “Thanks to Austin Brown for being at the right place at the right time, and thank you to all the fire departments that responded and worked quickly, and with great care to save us. We are truly grateful today, and will be reopening as soon as possible thanks to the efforts of what seemed to be 100 people this morning.”
Sylvan Beach, North Bay, Verona, Oneida Castle, Durhamville, Canastota, New London, Vienna, andWampsville fire departments were dispatched, as well as Vineall Ambulance.
