ST. ELIZABETH 81 graduate nursing college
St. Elizabeth College of Nursing (SECON) graduated 81 new nurses on Saturday, May 11. Of the 81 graduates, 57 attended weekday classes and 24 participated in the evening/ weekend program.
The 113 graduation ceremony was held at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Utica, following a procession across Genesee Street.
College President Varinya Sheppard, DNP, RN, CENP; Jessica Eldred, MS, RN, FNP; and Beverly Plante, MS, RN, CNE; Deans of Student and Faculty Development at SECON, presented the graduates with their associate in Applied Science degrees. Senior class advisors Michelle Wolff, MS, RN, and Lauren Fallon, MS, RNC-OB, presented them with the SECON pin.
Darlene Stromstad, FACHE, president/CEO of Mohawk Valley Health System (MVHS), welcomed the graduates, faculty, staff and participants. The commencement address was given by Father Joseph Salerno, pastor of Our Lady of Lourdes Church.
The valedictorian was Alexis Jory of Frankfort, New York. Salutatorians were Rebecca Schmitt of Utica and Sarah Pickering of Sherill, New York.
SECON is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education and the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing, Inc., and registered by the New York State Education Department.
