Utica-Rome redates sportsman showdown

Mother Nature again rained out racing at the oval, pushing the Wild Ultimate Sportsman Showdown to August.

On Sunday night, Utica-Rome Speedway was forced to cancel another night’s racing program due to Mother Nature.

Rain hit the speedway overnight then heavy rains early in the afternoon left the speedway no choice but to pull the plug with the track and parking lot saturated.

Sunday’s scheduled program was presented by The Wild Animal Park and Federated Auto Parts. The highlight of the program was The Wild 100 Ultimate Sportsman Showdown. With the excitement that was built around the event the speedway is excited announce that the race has been reschedule­d for Sunday, August 25.

The Wild 100 Ultimate Sportsman Showdown is slated for 100-laps for the Broedel Fuel Group DIRTcar Sportsman. The winner will receive $2,500 while everyone driver qualifying

for the A-Main will pocket $250. Qualifying will include timed warm-ups, heats races as well as a D, C, and B-Main to fill out the field for the feature.

Also on the August 25 programwhi­ch is presented by The Wild Animal Park, The Kotary Family and Turn One LLC are the Dirttrackd­igest.com DIRTcar 358-Modifieds. This will serve as their final point night of the 2019 season with the Super DIRTcar Series visiting the track the following week. The Gene Kotary Memorial for the Ted’s Body Shop DIRTcar Pro Stocks will pay $1,000 to win that night as well. The Bernie’s Extreme Performanc­e Parts Rookie Sportsman will complete the card.

Speedway officials are working with Federated Auto Parts to reschedule their night at the race track. Race fans that purchased discount tickets through their local Federated Auto Parts Stores are asked hold onto those tickets as there will be announceme­nt in the coming days when the event will be reschedule­d.

Next weekend the circle track will be silent as the motocross track comes to life for the first time in 2019. Practice is slated for Saturday, June 8 with racing action taking place on Sunday, June 9. Gates open at 6 a.m. on Sunday with registrati­on beginning at 7 a.m. Practice will go off at 8:30 a.m. with racing starting at 10 a.m.

Admission to the event is just $10 for access to the track and pits.

On June 16 racing resumes at the half-mile when Community Car Wash and Pioneer Window Manufactur­ing Corporatio­n presents the DIRTcar Sportsman Series with $1,000 going to the winner. Also on the schedule is the Dirt Nostalgia Tour, the DirtTrackD­igest.com DIRTcar 358-Modifieds, Ted’s Body Shop DIRTcar Pro Stocks and Bernie’s Extreme Performanc­e Parts Rookie Sportsman.

Pit gates on Sunday, June 16 will open at 3:30 p.m. while spectator gates swing open at 4 p.m. with the heat races beginning promptly at 6 p.m. Adult general admission is set for $13, Senior/Military/Students are $10 while kids 16 and under are free. Pit admission for the night is $27 for DIRTcar members and $30 for nonmembers.
