Senior vice president honored by insurance association
NEW HARTFORD, N.Y. >> Bernard J. Turi, senior vice president, general counsel, general auditor and chief risk officer with the Utica National Insurance Group, was recently honored by the New York Insurance Association (NYIA).
An award presentation took place at a special banquet held in May as a part of the NYIA’s annual conference at The Sagamore Resort in Bolton Landing, N.Y.
Turi joined Utica National in 1987 as a senior claims specialist in the Errors and Omissions Department. After a series of promotions, he was named to his current position in 2014. He was named an officer of the company as assistant vice president in 2004, promoted to vice president in 2007, and named senior vice president in 2011. He also serves as the chair of the screening committee of the Utica National Group Foundation, the philanthropic arm of the Utica National Insurance Group.
A cum laude graduate of Niagara (New York) University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science, Turi earned a Juris Doctorate from the Syracuse University College of Law. He was 2014 and 2015 chair of the NYIA, and has served on the NYIA Board of Directors since 2007 and as an officer with the organization since 2010. He also serves on the board of directors and the finance and audit committees of the New York Property Insurance Underwriting Association (NYPIUA), on the board of directors of the Motor Vehicle Accident Indemnification Corporation (MVAIC) and was recently appointed by the New York State superintendent of the Department of Financial Services to serve as a member of the New York State Insurance Advisory Committee.
He is admitted to practice law before the courts of the state of New York as well as the United States District Court for the Northern District of New York.
