The Oneida Daily Dispatch (Oneida, NY)
Re-elect Magliocca for Oneida supervisor
Four years ago, I asked “How do you represent the voters who elect you into office, and bring forth the issue’s affecting their community, if you don’t attend city Common Council meetings, talk to department heads, the mayor, and Common Council members on a regular basis?”
Since taking office in January of 2016, I have a record of attendance and participation at Common Council meetings, and interaction with the city administration, that NOMadison County supervisor, past or present, has equaled.
Two years ago, I asked “What do I owe you as your elected representative, and how have I satisfied that debt, repaid that IOU?”
Since taking office, that constant involvement with city officials and department heads has meant I am informed regarding the issues our city faces. Taking my knowledge of the county, its departments, committees, programs, and projects, and bringing that information back to benefit the city, has been key.
Being involved, informed, and understanding the issues is at the very heart of the benefits I have been able to deliver to the city. In my time as your supervisor, I have played a role in many projects that positively impact our community and help to keep taxes stable.
Oneida envisioned a business park on West Elm Street for 20 years, but was unable to negotiate an easement on private property. Madison County developed a bargaining position of leverage with that property owner, and with my persistence, that utility easement was granted. The Empire Farms Greenhouse project was the immediate result. When complete, the greenhouse will bring over 100 new jobs, and provide tens of thousands of dollars in property, school, and Library District taxes to our community.
A $1.7 million Federal Transportation Grant has transformed our City Center and developed a stunning 3 mile section of the Oneida Rail Trail. The grants, written in large part by the Madison County Planning Department, will allow future grant applications to build off the success of this project. I amproud to play a significant role in the planning, development, and maintenance of this project.
Since taking office in 2016, I have fought for the continued and fair distribution of Oneida Indian Nation gaming revenue. Madison County has provided the city with nearly $700,000 for municipal and special district grants, as well as an additional nearly $200,000 from the host county funding.
As a member of the Public Utilities Committee, we are working with multiple municipalities across the county to collectively negotiate new franchise agreements with Spectrum. Oneida currently receives 3 percent; many other municipalities receive 5 percent. Successfully negotiating a 5 percent franchise agreement would result in a revenue increase of over $60,000.
Community service is at the heart of what I do. I continue my over 20 year volunteer efforts with the Recreation Department. Trail maintenance and development at the Duross Conservancy, Mt. Hope Reservoir, and on the Oneida Rail Trail are a pleasure.
On Primary Day, Tuesday, June 25, you can ensure that an informed, involved, and outspoken supervisor is representing you. Please vote for Joseph A Magliocca, Madison County Supervisor, representing Wards 4, 5, and 6.
