Old Home Distillers awarded
LEBANON, N.Y. >> OldHome Distillers recently captured two medals in the 2019GreatAmericanInternational Spirits Competition.
“We generally don’t chase medals – it’s easy to find other ways to spend those entry fees,” said codistiller and marketing director Aaron Carvell. “This year we decided to submit just two of our whiskeys, so it was quite pleasing to see them both awarded so highly.”
The family-owned and operated whiskey producer won a rare gold medal for its Brothers’ Cut Straight Bourbon Whiskey in the “Small Batch Bourbon 10 Years and Younger” category and a silver medal for its New York Single Malt Whiskey in the “American Craft Whiskey” category.
Spirits from producers around the world were entered in this
year’s competition, held May 4 and 5 in Rochester. More than 300 entries were evaluated by a panel of experts including master distillers, certified spirits educators, brand ambassadors, retailers, importers, and spirits industry writers and consultants. Out of the 200 entries receiving awards, only 13 Gold and 50 Silver medals were given.
Despite making over ten varieties of spirits, Old Home entered just two in this year’s competition.
“It’s not just a win for us, but also for our vendor partners,” Carvell said. “Since both of our medal-winners are made with New York grains and aged in locally made barrels from Adirondack Barrel Cooperage, it’s a great indication that New York state is well on its way to becoming a world class whiskey region.”
Both Brothers’ Cut Straight Bourbon Whiskey and Old Home Distillers NewYork SingleMaltWhiskey are available at the distillery’s tasting room and via select retailers throughout New York State. They are also available at local farmers markets, including the CNY Regional Market, Cazenovia FarmersMarket, Hamilton Farmers Market, and Oneida County Public Market.
