‘Navigating Challenging Landscapes’
ONEIDA, N.Y. >> Professional photographer and writer Jennifer Langille will present in rich descriptions and telling photographs the genesis and making of her new book “Navigating Challenging Landscapes” at Oneida Public Library on Tuesday, June 25, at 7 p.m.
In late 2017, Langille with her dog Monty set out from her home in Vermont in a Jeep converted into a mobile home on an eight-month, cross-country trek to remote areas where she connected with individuals whose lives had been affected by cancer. In her travels, “navigating” challenges on the back roads and in the wilderness was paralleled in her conversations with cancer survivors and their families in remote communities.
As Langille notes on her web site (jenniferlangille.com/the-journey), her new book is not “about cancer. Cancer is the muse, not the starring role. It’s about love, passion, determination and overcoming fears of the unknown. The individuals (she met in her travels) have all been impacted by cancer; however, none are defined by cancer.”
Langille, after working six years as a pharmaceutical researcher, took up photography professionally and has worked as a photojournalist at “Sailing World” and “Seahorse Magazine,” as well as for the Volvo Ocean Race. She also served a stint as a contracted photographer at Norwich University in Vermont. For the past several years she has worked as a freelance photographer for numerous clients.
Langille’s presentation is free and open to the public. For more information, stop by the Oneida Library, 220 Broad St., or call 315-363-3050.
