Camden tap water wins taste test

The town was honored with the distinction during the Oneida County Fair in Boonville.

BOONVILLE, N.Y. >> The village of Camden won the 2019 Tap Water Taste Contest held at the Boonville- Oneida County Fair on Tuesday, July 23. The contest promotes awareness of the value and quality of public drinking water and has been held throughout New York State for many years.

The Tap Water Taste Contest is an event where water systems from across Oneida County are invited to join together for a friendly, non-scientific competition. Each water system submits tap water for the contest, and the public is encouraged to try each system’s water and select the sample they like best.

This year, four water systems participated, which included the villages of Camden, Boonville and Remsen, as well as the Mohawk Valley Water Authority. The village of Camden received the most points, with Boonville Village receiving the secondmost points.

tors of Oneida County,” said Oneida County Director of Health Phyllis D. Ellis, BSN, MS F.A.C.H.E. “Safe drinking water is one of our most vital resources. It is due in large part to the hard work and dedication of the many water operation specialists that our tap water is inexpensive and safe to drink.”

The village of Camden will advance to the Regional Competition to be held at the Rosamond Gifford Zoo at Burnett Park in Syracuse on Aug. 9 at 2 p.m. At this competition, the village of Camden will be competing against the winners of contests held in the Central New York Region, including Madison, Oswego, Onondaga, Tompkins, Cortland and Broome counties.

The winner of the regional competition will advance to the final contest at the New York State Fair held in Syracuse in late August.
