Garden Club meeting

Sherrill — The Sherrill Garden Club will meet on Tuesday, Aug. 6 at 6 p.m. at the home of John and Laurie Barron, 711 Sherrill Road, Sherrill for a tour of their gardens and John’s wooden creations. The club will then cross Sherrill Road to Ebenezer’s for ice cream.

Rummage and bake sale

Oneida — New Hope Christian, 1904 W. Road, Oneida, will hold a rummage and bake sale on Friday, Sept. 6, from9 a.m. to 4 p.m.; and a bag sale on Saturday, Sept. 7, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Clean and usable contributi­ons and donations are appreciate­d and will be accepted at the church from Aug. 25 through Sept. 5.

Vehicle auction

Utica — The New York State Office of General Services (OGS) will hold a surplus vehicle, highway equipment, and miscellane­ous property auction in Utica on Wednesday, Aug. 7, at 9:30 a.m. A 13 percent Buyers Premium will be applied to all items sold at this auction. Food Pantry open

Vernon — The Holy Family Church Food Pantry on Peterboro Road in Vernon serves families in Vernon, Vernon Center, Sherrill, Oneida Castle and Oriskany Falls. The food pantry is open the first and third Monday and Friday of every month. Monday is open 5-6:30 p.m. and Friday is open 9:30-11 a.m. Fresh food is the fourth Thursday of every month open 3-4:30 p.m. The pantry will be open the following dates: Friday, Aug. 2 and Aug. 16; Monday, Aug. 5 and Aug. 19; and Thursday, Aug. 22.

Rummage sale

New London — The New London United Methodist Church will have a rummage sale in July and August on the third Saturday of each month from 9 a.m. to1 p.m. on County Route 50 next to the New London Fire House. The sales will feature miscellane­ous items.

Project Fibonacci

Rome — Scholars from across the state will arrive at the 2019 Project Fibonacci STEAM Leadership conference in Rome from July 30 to Aug. 3 at the Beeches Conference Center. The week culminates with a STEAM Conference Multi-Media Fair on Saturday, Aug. 3 from 9:30-11:30 a.m. The multi-media fair is open to the public. Scholars will spend the week working in groups to resolve the task of “How Will We Live on Mars” and will present their solutions to family, the public and a panel of judges. Attendees can cast their ballot for the best solution in the People’s Choice Award.

Social engineerin­g summer camp

Rome — Mohawk Valley Community College will host a tuition-free Social Engineerin­g Summer Camp on the Rome Campus, 1101 Floyd Ave., Rome, for 11th and 12th graders who live in Oneida and Madison counties. Students will have an option to either take a three-credit Cyber Security course or a three-credit Fraud Examinatio­n course. This program will run July 29 through Aug. 9, from8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. In addition to an end-of-program trip, breakfast and lunch will be provided. Preregistr­ation is encouraged. Superinten­dent search

Madison — The Madison Board of Education is beginning the search process for a new superinten­dent of schools. Board members are seeking input from a variety of stakeholde­r groups on the desired leadership profile of the new superinten­dent to help inform them in their search. Parents and community members who would like to share their thoughts can do so at a meeting on Thursday, Aug. 8 at 6:30 p.m. in the Madison CSD library. Vernon Center Old Home Day

Vernon Center — The 42 Vernon Center Old Home Day will take place in the park on Aug. 3. The day begins with a parade led by the Madison Central School Band and continues with a day of music provided by Fritz’s Polka Band and Matt Chase. Barbecue chicken dinners will be available all day. Children’s games include a Kids Tractor Pull at noon, craft, collectibl­es, fleak markets antique cars and tractors are scheduled. Whitelaw Old Home Day

Canastota — The 61st Whitelaw Old Home Day kicks off on Saturday, Aug. 3 with the grand parade at 1 p.m. This year’s theme is “Come, Gather” and will feature music by “Rewind”, “Radiance” and Jeff Hinman, frog jumping and watermelon seed spitting contest, a homemade hat contest, a kids tractor pull, an auction, bouncy house and the Bach-Dunbar chicken barbecue. Admission is free to the public.

Chittenang­o — Vintage baseball and antique tractors get together at Strikeout Cancer Saturday on Saturday, Aug. 3 at the Chittenang­o Landing Canal Boat Museum. Residents are invited to watch an old time baseball game from1-4 p.m. at Recognitio­n Park, Legion Drive in Chittenang­o, complete with original rules and old time equipment. Antique tractors will be on display on the grounds of the museum from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is $5 per person, $20 for a family and 5 and under are free with all proceeds going to the Patrick Weise Foundation.

Living history bus trip

Clinton — A one day bus trip to visit Genesee Country Village, the largest living history museum in New York state, will be held on Saturday, Aug. 24, departing from Clinton and Herkimer. Spend theday exploring their 68 buildings with costumed interprete­rs spanning through three time periods in the 19th century. There is a hop-on and off trolley to help see the sites. State Fair bus trip

Clinton — A one day bus trip to the New York State Fair will be held on Monday, Aug. 26, departing from Herkimer and Clinton. Living well with diabetes

Oneida — A free workshop series to help those living with diabetes will be offered at Oneida Healthcare from Sept. 3 to Oct 15, meeting once a week on Tuesdays. Attendees will learn tips and techniques to better self-manager their diabetes and take charge of their health. Heritage hops

Oneida — Potted hop plants are once again available to benefit the Madison County Historical Society in Oneida for a $5 donation. More than 200 hop plants are ready for purchase now. Plants will also be available at the Hop Shop on Saturday, Sept. 14 during the annual Madison County Hop Fest. Varieties available include Cascade and “Hedgerow Hops” from the wild stock of the old hop yards near Bouckville, where commercial hop growing was introduced to New York state in 1808. Gorman Foundation insurance enrollment

Oneida — Tuesdays through Fridays at the Mary Rose Clinic in the Gorman Foundation Center, there will be an insurance enroller available from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. On Wednesday, the enroller is on site from 4-7 p.m. during clinic hours.

PAC 99 livestream­ing

Oneida — Public Access Channel 99, on the Oneida area Spectrum cable service, has begun live streaming selected video on the PAC 99 Facebook page. Videos are streamed live and also archived for later viewing. PAC 99 continues to broadcast content on Spectrumca­ble channel 99 in addition to the Facebook live streaming. The weekly PAC 99 schedule is posted on the PAC 99 Facebook page. The PAC 99 website, www.pac99.org has been taken out of service and has been replaced by the PAC 99 Facebook page.

Lakeside Farmers Market

Bridgeport — The Lakeside Farmers Market, a collaborat­ion of Bridgeport United Methodist Church and the community, is every Thursday from 3-7 p.m., rain or shine. Canastota — The U.S. Department of Agricultur­e and Markets has issued coupons redeemable at local farmers markets. To be eligible you must be age 60 or over and affirm you are low income based on one or more of the following criteria: eligible for or currently receiving SSI, Public Assistance, Section 8 HUD Subsidy. Coupons are worth $20. One booklet per eligible adult, one time per year. The coupons are free and can be used to buy fresh fruits and vegetables at any participat­ing farmers market. Canastota — The Canastota/Lenox Seniors Club invites all residents of the town of Lenox and the village of Canastota who are 50 years of age or older to join their social group. Dues are $5 per year and gives the opportunit­y to meet and travel to plays/entertainm­ent venues around NYS and beyond. ‘Decorative Threads’

Clinton — “Decorative Threads” is the current display at the Clinton Historical Society. There are dresses, smocks, and shirts from the mid to late 19th century as well as a large collection of lace and beaded purses. All of these items show the workmanshi­p of the mid to late Victorian period, whether made by hand or later by machine. It was often women who worked hard to perfect their designs as wearing lace and embellishm­ents on clothing was an important sign of status and prosperity. The historical society is open Wednesdays and Saturdays from1-4 p.m.

5-hour course offered

BOCES Consortium for Continuing Education currently holds the approved DMV NYS pre-licensing 5 hour course at the following locations most Saturday’s from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Rome YMCA, 301 W. Bloomfield St., Rome, and the Oneida Rec Center, 217 Cedar St., Oneida. Class is also held the first Thursday of everymonth from January to June 2019 from 4-9 p.m. at Hamilton High School, 24 W. Kendrick Ave., Hamilton. The cost is currently $50, payable by cash or check to Madison-Oneida BOCES. You must have a valid picture Learner’s Permit in order to attend.
