Rustin to lead Human Resources
UTICA, N.Y. >> Wayne A. Rustin LLM, JD, BA, has been named chief human resource officer (CHRO) and legal counsel for labor relations at Mohawk Valley Health System (MVHS).
Rustin has been serving as Acting CHRO for the past several weeks, and has demonstrated professional leadership in human resources that is already making a difference to the organization. He joined MVHS in late 2018 as an assistant vice president in the HR department, serving as legal counsel for labor relations. He will combine that role with serving as CHRO.
A native of Mechanicsville, Va., Rustin is an accomplished human resources executive with many years of experience. He has held senior HR roles at impressive organizations like St. Vincent’s Health Services (part of Ascension Health), Comcast, IBM, J.C. Penney Company, Inc. and the City of New York.
Rustin has his Juris Doctorate degree fromHoward University School of Law, and a LLM from Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. He has served dual roles several times in his career, most recently serving as CHRO and senior counsel for St. Vincent’s Health Services in Bridgeport, Conn.
Rustin spent 15 years of his career with J.C. Penney in Plano, Texas, advancing to three officer roles and spending four years in Washington, DC, as a lobbyist for the company. He is a past trial attorney for the National Labor Relations Board, a municipal court judge for the city of Fort Worth, Texas, and an adjunct professor for the University of Dallas.
He served as director of Global Equal Opportunity, Marketplace & Workforce Diversity for IBM, developing a pioneering diversity recruitment program. Next, he served as chief human capital officer for New York City. He also served as regional vice president human resources of Comcast in Berlin, Conn.
His visionary background in driving change in organizations is a great fit for MVHS. He fosters accountability, while building bridges and engaging the involvement of staff. An assertive and frank communicator, Wayne quickly assesses strengths and weaknesses and challenges teams to raise the standard of excellence.
Wayne is married and is the proud father of teenage twins, Bradley and Lauren who will be attending UNC, Chapel Hill in North Carolina and James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Va., this fall.
He is excited to put his comprehensive skills to work here at MVHS which will be enormously helpful in building a culture to prepare us for the growth and opportunity that lie ahead.
