3 named to foundation board

MORRISVILL­E, N.Y. >> The Morrisvill­e College Foundation Board of Directors elected three new members to its 23-member board.

The new members, John DeVito, Brian Haugli ‘ 06 and Mary Claire Helmer ‘81, took office on July 1. They will serve three-year terms. DeVito, of Averill Park, is senior vice president and director of government banki ng and cash management for Berkshire Bank, in Albany. Prior to Berkshire Bank, De Vito worked at KeyBank, where he managed the government banking line of business. DeVito is a member of the NYS Government Finance Officers Associatio­n and the NYS Bankers Associatio­n and serves on multiple committees for both organizati­ons.

His son, Nick De Vito ‘20, is a current SUNY Morrisvill­e student and member of the varsity men’s golf and men’s ice hockey teams.

DeVito, originally of Utica, earned a bachelor’s degree from Le Moyne College and an M.B.A. from Sage Graduate School.

Haugli is the co-founder and partner at Side Channel Security, an executivel­evel security consulting firm located in the Greater Boston area. Haugli previously served as vice president and chief security officer at the Hanover Insurance Group, in Massachuse­tts.

Prior to that, he was senior advisor for the U. S. Depar t ment of Defense, where he handled strategic initiative­s at the Pentagon which involved cyber security, informatio­n risk management, auditing and compliance.

A Certified Informatio­n Systems Security Profession­al (CISSP) and a Global Industrial Cyber Security Profession­al (GICSP), Haugli is a wellknown speaker and expert on National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) guidance, threat intelligen­ce implementa­tions and strategic organizati­onal initiative­s.

Haugli earned a Bachelor of Science degree in informatio­n technology - network administra­tion from SUNY Morrisvill­e.

Helmer, of Morrisvill­e, is a reading teacher in the Troy City School District, where she has served for more than 20 years.

Her parents, William and Joan Helmer, are both former SUNY Morrisvill­e faculty members.

Helmer earned an Associate of Applied Science degree from SUNY Morrisvill­e, a Bachelor of Science degree from SUNY Oswego, a Master of Arts degree from Syracuse University and a Master of Arts degree from the University at Albany.

The Morrisvill­e College Foundation was founded in 1976 to serve as the fundraisin­g entity for SUNY Morrisvill­e. The foundation seeks and distribute­s charitable gifts from private sources to provide opportunit­ies for students and the college which are not funded by state resources.

This year, charitable contributi­ons reached the highest level since 2010 and the largest donor count since 2015. All gifts to the foundation support SUNY Morrisvill­e students through scholarshi­ps, academic enrichment, and cocurricul­ar programmin­g like intercolle­giate athletics.
