Mustangs take the field for 2019

-

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. » The Morrisville State football schedule was officially announced Monday, as seventh year head coach Curt Fitzpatrick returns to the Mustang sidelines for a competitive non-conference and Empire 8 slate in 2019.

Morrisville finished 6-5 overall a year ago, making a second appearance under the guidance of Fitzpatrick in the ECAC Bowl Championships. The Mustangs finished fourth overall in the Empire 8 last season, compiling a 4-3 overall record with wins coming in a four-game streak over Utica College, St. John Fisher, and Buffalo State.

The Mustangs will open the season on the road at Bridgewater State for a noon non-conference battle on September 7, before hitting Drake Field for the first time in 2019 against Hobart on the 14th in a non-conference bout.

Morrisville State heads to St. Lawrence University on the 20th for a match under the lights, returning home on the 28th for a 12 p.m. Mustang Weekend (homecoming) contest against ECFC Champion Husson University.

They get their first taste of Empire 8 action for the season on the road October 5th at Alfred University, and will host

SUNY Cortland the following week, Oct. 12 in a 5:30 Saturday night phenomenon.

After a road battle at Utica on the 19th, Morrisville State will have a byeweek before entering November for their final regular game skid.

They make a stop at Hartwick on Nov. 2 at 1 p.m., and wrap up the regular season with back-toback home battles, hosting St. John Fisher College at 1 p.m. on Nov. 9, meeting last year’s conference champion, Brockport, for the season finale on the 16th.

“Our 2019 schedule presents a great test for our football team,” said Fitzpatrick, who over the past two seasons has led the Mustangs to a 10-11 overall record, 6-8 mark within the Empire 8.

“We open up with a road test against a Bridgewater State team who had a very successful season last year and a post-season appearance, and then come back home for our home opener against Hobart, who is traditionally one of the top programs in the Liberty league year in and year out.”

“I am excited to continue our non- conference relationship with St. Lawrence and we know that it will be a very difficult atmosphere up there under the Friday night lights; and the addition of Husson to the schedule adds yet another nonconference opponent who has a tradition of success and post-season appearances.”

“Beyond that, our Empire 8 Conference schedule is a very difficult challenge. We are used to playing great competition year in and year out, which I believe is a big reason behind our program’s growth over the past six seasons.”

“Our players come to Morrisville because they are competitors, and want to play top competition.”

Morrisville will get the preseason underway on August 15.
