VERNON, N.Y. >> The Community Bank in Vernon invites the community to participate in its third annual school supply drive to benefit students in the VernonVerona-Sherrill School District. The drive will take place throughout August.

Community members are encouraged to drop off various school supplies at the branch, including tissues, Crayola crayons, dryerase markers, colored pencils, two-pocket folders, spiral notebooks, rulers, wide-ruled loose-leaf paper, binders, handheld pencil sharpeners and pencil boxes.

“Starting the school year off with all the proper supplies is crucial to help set students up for success,” Community Bank Vernon Branch Manager Willis Corney said. “The support the Vernon community has shown for our past supply drives is remarkable and showcases how special this community truly is. I encourage anyone who is able to drop off school supplies this month and help our local students in need.”

In addition to holding the school supply drive, the Vernon branch is hosting a barbecue and bake sale from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Aug. 30. The branch will serve a hamburger or hotdog, a bag of chips and a drink for a suggested donation of $1.50. The hotdogs and hamburgers are donated by Vernon’s Apple Betty. The proceeds from the event will be used to purchase clothing and other items needed for the nurses’ offices in VVS’s three elementary schools.

For more information about the supply drive or what items to donate, please visit the Vernon Community Bank branch or call 315-829-2405.
