Opioid prevention roundtable slated for Aug. 26
ALBANY, N.Y. >> The Joint Senate Task Force on Opioids, Addiction and Overdose Prevention is holding a roundtable discussion in Madison County that will focus on challenges faced by rural communities.
“Opioid misuse and addiction is an ongoing crisis that is destroying families and communities throughout New York,” Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart- Cousins said. “This epidemic impacts all communities, which is why the Senate Majority will hold hearings and roundtable discussions throughout the state and we encourage New Yorkers to attend and participate.”
“Central New York is suffering,” Sen. Rachel May, D- 53, said. “We are losing loved ones and neighbors to the opioid crisis. Rural communities are some of the hardest hit, and to address the issue we must hear directly from those on the front lines. The roundtable in Madison County will bring experts and community leaders together to discuss measures we can take to help curb the damages of opioid use disorder and provide support for our residents. I am proud that the New York State Senate is making this crisis a priority by forming the Joint Senate Task Force on Opioids, Addiction & Overdose Prevention and holding these meetings across the state.”
The Madison County roundtable will be on Monday, Aug. 26 at 11 a.m. in the Madison County Board of Supervisors Chambers in Wampsville.
