The Oneida Daily Dispatch (Oneida, NY)
Re-election bid for Magliocca
Four years ago I asked, “how do you represent the voters who elect you into office, and bring forth the issues affecting our community, if you don’t attend City Common Council meetings, talk to department heads, the Mayor, and Common Council members on a regular basis?”
Since first taking office in January of 2016, I have a record of attendance, and participation at Common Council meetings, and interaction with the City administration, that NOMadison County Supervisor , past or present, has equaled.
Two years ago I asked, “what do I owe you as your elected representative, and how have
I satisfied that debt, repaid that IOU?” That involvement with City officials, and department heads, simply means that I am the most involved, and informed Supervisor, regarding the issues, and challenges that the City of Oneida faces.
Taking my knowledge of the County, it’s many department’s, Committees, programs, and projects, and bringing that information back to benefit the City, has been the key. Monthly Supervisors reports at Common Council meetings, increased cooperation between City/County departments, and on-going discussions of Shared Services, are just the beginning. I have been at the forefront of this increased level of communication, and interaction between the City and County.
There are a total of 19 Madison County Supervisors, who represent the many towns, and villages, as well as the City of Oneida. All but the 4 Oneida Supervisors, have a direct responsibility to their Town administration. Oneida Supervisors have no legislative authority within the City, we do not vote on policy, do not work, or vote on the budget, and we do not have the authority to work directly with Department heads regarding either capital projects, or day to day operations. Our purpose is to assist the County via Committee assignments, to represent the City of Oneida on matters impacting it, and look for ways to better integrate operations, to more efficiently, and cost effectively deliver services to our residents. We are elected by the residents of Oneida, to serve at the County level, but we can never forget those that elected us.
In just four short years as your Supervisor, I have played a role in many projects that have positively impacted our City, helped to build the tax base, to grow City revenue, and to help keep our taxes stable.
I have been your voice in Madison County Government, and at Oneida Common Council meetings. I hope to continue to be that outspoken advocate for the residents of the City of Oneida.
