Volvo V60 can do it all

- By Marc Grasso

This is not your average grocery-getter, but it could be ...

As SUV purchases have grown, van and wagon sales continue to slip. Sedan production has abated or stopped altogether at some manufacturers. Manufacturers are focused on developing vehicles that are more spacious and have better fuel economy without driving prices too high. Here are why SUVS and crossovers are surging: drivers can still sit low as if they were driving a sedan, have all of the space that is needed for cargo, have ample seating, have allwheel drive comparable to offroad utilities, attain fuel economy like a compact, have the luxury of an upscale import — does that spark your interest?

Which leads us to the Volvo V60 Cross Country Wagon. Straight to the numbers we go: a 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine with 250 horsepower, a torquey 258 lb.ft., an 8-speed Geartronic automatic transmission, 19” alloy wheels, a 12.3-inch standard digital driver display, a 9-inch standard integrated infotainment system, 10 speakers, a 48 month/50,000-mile warranty, and complimentary scheduled maintenance for three years/36,000 miles.

How about the standard items: Plush leather seats, gorgeous wood grain trim accents, heated front seats, 360-surround view camera, Volvo’s On-call Roadside Assistance plan, LED headlights, a panoramic moonroof, tinted windows, garage door Homelink ...

If you aren’t hooked yet, how about all this for an MSRP around $45G. I think my work here is done. We absolutely adore the Volvo V60. Our T5 AWD Cross Country test vehicle was flat-out awesome. It came equipped with just under $11,000 in options, but every one of them you could live without. The V60 checked so many categorical boxes that I now recognize why the Swedish manufacturer headquartered in Gothenburg, Sweden, owned by Chinese Auto giant, Geely, maintains its widening popular lineup.

As a Volvo XC60 owner, I am a huge fan of what Volvo has done with its vehicles. Its technology, appearance, luxury, usability and spacious interiors are enough for me to stay a loyal customer and recommend them to others. Go test one, you won’t be disappointed.
