Primary Urgent Care, Central New York’s Independent and locally owned walkin urgent care clinic, announced the addition of Primary Urgent Care Telemedicine, which will allow patients to access their urgent care providers from home.

The telemedicine virtual visit option was added in an effort to maintain vital healthcare services while assisting the community during the COVID-19 pandemic. Patients are able to access the Primary Urgent Care telemedicine portal by visiting primaryurgentcare.com.

Patients will be asked to complete a short registration form and be able to check-in. Virtual visits are available on a firstcome, first-served basis. To participate in Primary Urgent Care’s telemedicine you will need access to a device with video and audio capability such as a smartphone, tablet or computer.

If it is identified during the telemedicine visit that the patient requires further care and needs an in-person exam, the telemedicine provider will direct them to their closest Primary Urgent Care facility.

“With this new service, there are some clear benefits that telemedicine brings to providing medical care remotely. One of the most important aspects is the elimination of exposure and transmission risk. When a patient comes into any healthcare facility there is a risk of exposure (getting an illness) as well as the risk of transmitting a communicable disease (passing an illness to others). With a telemedicine visit the patient does not risk exposure or transmitting the flu, viral gastrointestinal illness, and yes, coronavirus.” Medical Director, Dr. AJ Klimek said in a news release.

Primary Urgent Care patients also receive the added benefit of talking with local providers.

“One of the advantages of Primary Urgent Care’s Telemedicine is it allows patients to receive high-quality care from a local clinician from one of the facilities, while also keeping the patient safe during this uncertain time. Maintaining a safe environment for our patients, colleagues, and communities is our biggest priority at this time” said Clinic Administrator, Daniel Trevisani.

Primary Urgent Care’s Telemedicine appointments are available Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. and 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekends. Primary Urgent Care’s two locations in Utica and Herkimer, will remain open for their regular hours.
