Local state assembly candidates declare victory
CENTRAL NEW YORK » Several Assembly seats were up for grabs across various districts in oneida and Madison counties. With the final unofficial election night results in from the NYS Board of Elections, most candidates have assumed victory despite absentee ballot counts still pending. 101st Assembly District Assemblyman Brian Miller’s ( R, I, C- New Hartford) campaign has announced victory over challengers Chadmcevoy ( D, WF) and Barbara Kidney ( G). At the time of announcement, Miller was up 30 percent. The final unofficial tally is:
Miller - 32,475
Mcevoy - 17,236
Kidney - 892
“This has truly been a trying year and I am grateful we are in the position we are in as we cross the finish line,” said miller. He referred to his experience personally battling a COVID- 19 infection back in March, resulting in isolation for more than 30 days between the ICU at St. Luke’s Hospital and rehab facilities at Sitrin Health Care Center.
“[ COVID- 19] kept me away from my family for more than a month, and it shut down my ability to campaign formonths. Getting out and speaking with the voters is, for me, the most enjoyable part of campaigning and we really didn’t get to do that as much as we like. We had to use other means to connect with voters this year and I believe we worked very hard at that and we were very effective.
“I’d like to thank everyone for their support this year with both my battle with COVID- 19 and with my re- election campaign. Your support has meant everything to me, and my family, and it is an honor to represent you for another term.”
Mcevoy shared his comments via Facebook, stating, “I am so incredibly grateful for your support and your belief in this campaign and in me as your candidate. Thank you to all the volunteers and donors who made any of this possible. I am proud that we ran a campaign with heartfelt earnestness, talking directly to the voters about the issues in our communities.”
“I sincerely want Assemblyman Brian Miller to be successful in delivering results for the people of this district and wish him my very best.”
Kidney said shewas glad to run as a Green party candidate on a platform that prioritizes eliminating property taxes on primary residences, supporting public and environmental health, and bringing ranked choice voting to NYS.
She added, “Most people voted as if they are against these things, so it would seem that property taxes and high taxes on finan--
