Section 3’ s dates for winter sports, Indoor Track season postponed

It has been a crazy fewmonths in the world of interscholastic athletics. The fall sports season was thrown for a loop when sports like football were pushed back to March, and many local schools decided not to participate in fall sports entirely due to the COVID- 19 pandemic.

With the first fall sports season all butwrapped, we nowpush our attention to the next stepwhat to do when it comes to winter athletics and what remains for the 2020- 2021 school year.

According to John Rathbun, the Executive Director for

NYSPHSAA Section 3 said in a press release, “The governing body of Section 3 approved the sport seasondates for the remainder of the 2020- 2021 school year. These projected dates are predicated upon additional guidance expected from Governor Andrew Cuomo and the New York State

Department of Health. Our member schools anticipate clearance and clarification onhow to safely conduct indoor athletic competitions during the coronavirus pandemic.”

Monday, December 14, 2020 - Sunday, February 28, 2021

B/ G Basketball, Ice Hockey, B Swin/ Dive, B/ G Bowling, Competitive Cheerleading, Rifle, Wrestling, B/ G Winter Volleyball, Skiing

Fall Sports Season 2 - No Sectionals

Monday, March 1, 2021 - Friday, April 30, 2021

Football, B/ G Soccer, G Tennis, B/ G Cross Country, B/ G Volleyball, Competitive Cheerleading, Field Hockey, G Swim, B Golf, Gymnastics

Spring Sports Season - Sectionals TBA

Monday, April 19, 2021 - Monday, June 30, 2021

B/ G Lacrosse, Baseball, Softball, B Tennis, B/ G Track and Field, B/ G Golf

However, many sports are labeled as “high risk,” which means they require further guidance from the NYSPHSAA and the Governor’s office and cannot play games after January 1, 2021. And Section 3 also announced that the winter Indoor Track and Field season had been postponed.
