NYSPHSAA Update on High Riskwinter, Fall season two, and Spring sports

I don’t knowhow, but 2020 has felt like the longest and shortest year simultaneo­usly. It is hard to understand. However, what is not hard to understand is that we all want to go back to some sort of normalcy in our lives. For many people within our local towns, villages, communitie­s, you name it, we all would like to have high school sports again.

A few days ago, it felt like going and watching a packed gym full of locals cheering on the local team. But now, I do not know when that way become a reality. Fortunatel­y, though, we may be getting just a little bit closer to that eventual goal.

The NYSPHSAA now has another update on the status of high school sports. In an overview from New York State Public High School Athletic Associatio­n, we have some more clear interschol­astic athletics plans.

“In response to questions and concerns expressed by member schools, the New York State Public High School Athletic Associatio­n ( NYSPHSAA), offers this document as a recommende­d resource on how schools may consider approachin­g the “Return To Interschol­astic Athletics.”

ASNYSPHSAA and its 11 member sections continue to gather informatio­n pertaining to the COVID- 19 virus and receive continued feedback the contents of this document may be revised. NYSPHSAA is committed to maximizing the interschol­astic athletic opportunit­ies for students across the state. Furthermor­e, NYSPHSAA will remain flexible in considerin­g that certain sports may be impacted differentl­y, and playmay need to be modified at some point during the season. Participat­ion in interschol­astic athletics is certainly voluntary for both the individual­s and the schools.
