Department of Social Services seeks support for children in foster care

WAMPSVILLE, N. Y. » Madison County Department of Social Services ( MCDSS) is seeking both monetary and gift donations to support the children in foster care in Madison County this holiday season.

“It is our goal to provide each child with Christmas gifts that will make their holiday a little brighter,” the department wrote in a letter.

MCDSS currently has 26 children in area foster homes, according to officials.

The letter continued, “We can accept monetary donations up to $ 75.00 for the Christmas and Beyond Fund. This fund is set up to purchase Christmas gifts for children, as well as pay for special activities throughout the year.”

Donated toys and other items are also being accepted for boys and girls ages birth to 18, including:

• Infant toys

• Toddler toys

• Preschool toys and games

• Toys and games for schoolaged children

• Books for all ages

• Board games

• Personal hygiene items ( lotions, grooming and hair care supplies)

• Inexpensiv­e jewelry

• Art supplies and crafts

• Scrapbook making supplies

• Gift cards for Walmart or other stores

• Hats, mittens, and scarves for all ages

• Slippers for all ages

• Socks and underwear for all ages

This list is not all- inclusive. Many gifts are being excepted.

The MCDSS asks that no toy guns be donated.

Donations are best received by the MCDSS before Dec. 11, 2020, so gifts can be distribute­d in a timely fashion.

Arrangemen­ts can be made to pick up gifts by contacting the MCDSS at ( 315) 3662548, or donations can be dropped off at the DSS office in Wampsville.

If you are unable to donate at this time, the MCDSS encourages residents to advocate for the department by spreading the word to a friend or family member that Madison County is in need of foster parents.
