- By Staff Reports Sports@ oneidadispatch. com

Nothing is guaranteed, especially in the year that has been 2020. And for student- athletes across New York, the fall sports season was in colossal flux. Whether or not knowing if you would be able to play is a tough pill to swallow. Although we take it for granted nowadays, playing for and representing your high school is a great honor.

And through it all, some sports were still on andmoving forward with their season. And today, we will take a look at the 2020 Section III All- CNY field hockey team.

Out of the fourteenselected, we have three local field hockey players labeled as part of the squad.

First, we have Arayla Garcia from Vernon- Verona- Sherrill or VVS. She finished the season with 17 points, 7 goals, and 3 assists with a season highlight of scoring 4 goals and 1 assist

when VVS pitched shut out against CVA 5- 0. Garciamentioned that her favorite moment of the year was every singlemoment. “Our season wasn’t guaranteed. Wemade themost out of every game.” She plans on attending the United States Military Academy at West Point.

Gianna Trunfio attends Clinton High School and capped off the year with 19 goals and 10 assists. She said that best game of the year was when Clinton and Holland Patent squared off for the first time in the season. It was a battle between the unbeaten squads. Both team were red hot, and no one was budging an inch. They were so balanced that the game went to OT and ended in a tie. Her plans include attending Vassar College to further her education and field hockey career.

Lastly, we have Mackenzie Mix from Camden. Mix had a fantastic final season, ending with 15 goals and 3 assists. But what is even more impressive is the fact that Mix is now Camden’s alltime leader in both goals with 89 and 41 assists. Mix said that scoring the game- winning goal in OT against Canastota in the very last game of her high school career was her favorite game over the past year. She plans to attend East Stroudsburg University this fall to continue her field hockey and track career.

Congrats to Mackenzie Mix, Gianna Trunfio, and Arayla Garcia for making it on to the 2020 Section III All- CNY field hockey team, and good luck on all of your future endeavors.
