PAUL L. SHIFFER
Paul L. Shiffer Sr., 92, of Peterboro passed away Saturday, December 12, 2020 at the Crouse Community Center in Morrisville. He was born on August 20, 1928 in Palmerton, PA, a son of the late Paul H. and Charlotte M. ( Chase) Shiffer of Tunkhannock, PA. He was a graduate of Wyoming Seminary and Wilkes University. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and the U.S. Air Force and was a member of the Air Force Band. Paul had been a music teacher in Oriskany Falls, NY and Mesa, AZ; later joining the staff of the Morrisville- Eaton Central School where he taught music and was the marching band director for 31 years before retiring. His love of music extended to the theater, acting in shows at SUNY Morrisville, notably as the Captain in “Mr. Roberts” and Noah in “Two by Two”. He was also a member and Director of the Canastota Community Band.
Paul was a dedicated and active member of his community, having served as the Supervisor of the Town of Smith el din the1990’ s;wa son the Board of Directors of S. E. V. A. C. and the Board of the Madison County Department of Mental Health. In addition, he was a Boy Scout Troop Leader for many years.
Paul was pre- deceased by his oldest son Paul L. Shiffer, Jr. Surviving him are his wife Carol Shiffer of Morrisville, NY; daughter- in- law, Kathy ( Spaulding) Shiffer of Fairport, NY and his children, Stephen Shiffer and Edie Rivera of Winston Salem, NC; Greta Shiffer of Hamilton, NY; Stuart Shiffer of Aurora, CO; and Johanna Shiffer of Peterboro, NY; grandchildren, Nicole Shiffer of Fairport, NY; Lisette Shiffer of Hamilton, NY; Kristin ( Shiffer) Burke and Tom Burke of Macedon, NY, and their children Ian and Jemma.
Due to the current health concerns, services for Paul will be held at a later date.
In lieu of owers, donations can be made to a scholarship fund that will be established at ME CSc/o Johanna Shiffer, PO Box 35, Peterboro, NY 13134. Arrangements have been entrusted to Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 31 Cedar St., Morrisville, NY.
