ONEIDA- James R. Murray, 81, of Seneca Fields Apartments, Meadow Drive, passed away early Monday morning, Jan. 4, 2021 in Upstate University Hospital, where he had been a patient for the past week. Born in Rome on March 26, 1939, he was the son of George T. and Pearl Fisher Murray. A lifelong resident of the area, James was educated in Rome Free Academy. He then enlisted in the U.S. Air Force where he served from 1957-1961. Prior to his retirement, James was employed by Oneida Limited, Silversmit­h’s as the Supervisor of the Powerhouse. After retirement, he volunteere­d with the SNACK program and greatly enjoyed his daily deliveries. He was a member of the Sylvan Beach American Legion, Post 1153 and the Durhamvill­e Veteran’s Club. James enjoyed boating, shing and leisurely drives. Surviving are: four daughters, Karen (Dean) Blanchard, Kimberly Murray, Laurie (Joe) Benedict and Suzanne (Glen) Ford; two sons, James (Gwen) Murray and Michael Murray; seven grandchild­ren; four great-grandchild­ren; his loving companion, Pat Koscielnia­k of Oneida; three sisters, Nadine (Brad) Chase, Joyce Murray and Dorine Pycior; four brothers, George (Carol) Murray, William Murray, Timothy (Hope) Murray and Thomas Murray; several nieces, nephews, cousins and very special friend/ nurse, Shannon Lonczak for her compassion and dedication. He was predecease­d by a brother, Arthur Murray. In keeping with James’ wishes, there will be no public hours of visitation.
