Durhamvill­e- Carol R. Abel, age 82, formerly of Durhamvill­e and more recently of the Oneida Healthcare Extended Care Facility passed away Thursday morning January 28, 2021 at the ECF.

She was born on December 7, 1938 in Utica, New York a daughter of the late Raymond and Margaret (Montrose) Stuber and was a graduate of Utica Free Academy.

On September 17, 1960 Carol and Richard R. “Abe” Abel were united in marriage in Georgia and shared that union of fty-eight years until Richard’s death on September 8, 2018.

In the 1970’s Carol was a waitress at Dibble’s Inn and Chef Scholl’s Restaurant. She later went on to work the Oneida Healthcare Extended Care Facility as a nurse’s aide and later in her career to the Oneida Hospital as a ward clerk.

She was a former member of the Verona Presbyteri­an Church.

In her spare time she enjoyed knitting, sewing, and word searches and was an avid reader. Carol enjoyed her times spent with her family, grandchild­ren and great-grandchild­ren.

Surviving are her one son and daughter-in-law, Roy (Dawn) Abel of Canastota, one daughter and son-in-law, Lorry (John Jr.) Christense­n of Oneida, four grandchild­ren, Tyler, Traci, J.D. and Jessica, two step-grandchild­ren, Reannin and Patrick and several great-grandchild­ren, two sisters, Diane Taylor of Buffalo and Mary Lou Martin of Herkimer and several nieces and nephews.

In keeping with the families wishes due to COVID 19, there will be private calling hours and a private funeral service at the Malecki Funeral Home of Vernon. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Vernon, New York. In lieu of owers donations can be made to the Oneida Healthcare Center or the Alzheimer’s Associatio­n in Carol’s memory.
