Sunday, September 12 Clinton Historical Society
event: At 2:00 p.m. at the Clinton Historical Society (1 Fountain St., Clinton) David Garrett will once again present “The Story of Amish in Our Area.” Garrett’s popular talk will touch on a variety of topics including: origin, Orders, the Church, education, dress, marriage, transportation, and community ties. The stories he will share are of his experiences with Amish friends and neighbors over the past 25 years. This program is free and open to the public, and all persons interested in the history of the area are invited to attend. Face masks are requested to be worn by all at this time.
Pedal for Autism: With 1 in 54 kids diagnosed with autism each day, help The Kelberman Center to promote understanding and awareness of autism through a 10 or 20-mile charity bike ride that will take place at Woods Valley in Rome. The Pedal for Autism, with lead sponsor Birch Wealth Management, will be an enjoyable way to spend a morning to help raise funding for children, adults, and their families who receive Kelberman Center services. Sunday School registration: Augusta Oresbyterian Church, 2345 Route 26, Augusta, will hold Sunday School registration at 10 a.m. All children are welcome to attend Sunday School, which is held during the second half of morning worship. All are invite to attend.
Antique Car Show: The Mohican Model A Ford Club will hold its 60th annual Antique Car Show and Flea Market at the Wampsville Firemen’s Field from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. There is no admission charge for visitors, but they are encouraged to contribute toward show expenses by purchasing raffle tickets to win several hundred dollars in prizes. Raffle tickets are available only on the show field from members. About 800 cars covering the years 1900 to 1989 will be exhibited. Over 150 Flea Market vendors will offer both automotive and general antiques, collectibles etc. Another feature of the show is the “Car Corral” where owners can display antique cars for sale. Women’s Pre-apprenticeship training: The WDB/HMO’S Women in Apprenticeship and Nontraditional Occupations (WANTO) grant is launching a new pre-apprenticeship fasttrack training program. The four-week curriculum will help women become more employable in trades careers. Women will learn blueprint reading, construction math, receive their OSHA-10 certification, and do basic soft skills development. This program is a great opportunity for women to gain some knowledge about the trades and fill some of gaps that lead to low employment rates for women in these jobs. WANTO’S Pre-apprenticeship program will begin on September 13 and run Monday-friday, from 8:00 a.m.-noon for four weeks at the Educational Opportunity Center at 524 Elizabeth St. Utica, NY. Tuesday, September 14 Board meeting: The Oneida City School District Board of Education will hold a regular meeting at 6:00 p.m. at the Costello Transportation Center, 1136 Freedom Drive, Oneida, NY.
Board meeting: The Stockbridge Valley Central School Board of Education will hold a regular meeting at 6:30 p.m. in room S201 at the school, 6011 Williams Road, Munnsville, NY. Oneida Chamber Awards: The Oneida Chamber of Commerce’s Comeback Awards event will be held at 5:30 p.m. at the Oneida Lake Brew Haus. Awards distributed will include the Chamber’s Distinguished Service Award, New Business Award, and Longevity Award. The event will include a buffet, live music, cash bar, indoor/outdoor seating, and awards ceremony. Tickets are $50 per person. Tickets and sponsorship pledges can be obtained via the chamber’s website.
Canastota/ Lenox Seniors group meeting: This group meets every 3rd Thursday of the month at 1:30 p.m. at the VFW on Canal Street. Due to a Lancaster trip in September, the next meeting will be on Tuesday, September 14 at 1:30 p.m. Trips still available this season are Penn’s Peak in Jim Thorpe, PA for a luncheon and performance of “A Tribute to Glenn Miller Orchestra,” an 18 piece Brass Band. Also available to all is a 7 day 6 night Nashville, TN Show Trip. Many shows, meals, and guided tours of the Nashville area are included. Those looking to join the group for social time, special guest speakers of local and educational interest, or just time out for an afternoon, are welcome to join. Membership is $5 a year.
