Oneida Public Library to celebrate one year in its new building
ONEIDA, N.Y. » One year after the new Oneida Public Library (OPL) slowly, but surely, fully opened to the public, the library will hold an Anniversary Celebration on Saturday, Oct. 2, from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. The funfilled day for the whole family will include events in the new building and on the grounds at 459 Main St., Oneida.
The pandemic played havoc with the library’s construction, opening, and operation, and so officials are keen to finally celebrate this one-year milestone.
Ariel Wilber, OPL librarian, remarked, “Our programming is in full swing. Come see us on Oct. 2 to check out our new digs, have some refreshments, and see what’s coming up at the OPL.”
There will be something for everyone during the celebration. Guided tours of the building and grounds will be offered all day. Construction photos and other historical components of the library will be on display. Animals from the Central New York ASPCA will be present, as well as an exhibit of classic cars.
For the kids, Jeff the Magic Man will be performing from noon to 1 p.m. “His magic shows are always fun and engaging for all ages,” said Youth Coordinator Megan Gillander. Jeff will also be making balloon creations for children to take home. A crafting table will also be available.
At 1:30 p.m., Utica-area musical legend Monk Rowe and the Five Families Ensemble will perform their repertoire, which is arranged specifically for the group and ranges from Beethoven to Brubeck to the Blues and includes original compositions.
Local voice-over artist Ken Blumberg will be livestreaming on Facebook from OPL Studio 1 from 11: a.m. to 1 p.m., and the OPL Art Gallery will feature “Home: The Work of Daniel E. Militello.”
Everyone can take advantage of provided lawn games along with complimentary cookies and ice cream.
The anniversary celebration is free and open to all. According to OPL Director Michele Ryan, “Now that we have settled into our beautiful new building, worked our way through the COVID kinks, and cautiously opened our shiny new doors, we are ready to really roll out the red carpet! There are tons of exciting new programs spanning a wide range of interests. Come discover how the OPL can help launch your imagination.”
While at the library, be sure to pick up a calendar so you can plan for future programming.
